Fair enough. The dancing/celebrating on the P was annoying, but I don't think anyone would have really complained about it had they not then gone and run around and gloated to the crowd, raising their arms, shouting at UP fans, etc etc. Sacre in particular was the most egregious, I think.

The best way I can think to explain it: there's a difference between the attitude of sheer joy in victory, and the attitude of arrogantly expecting victory and glorying in it. What I saw from the Zag players last night was not "Oh my gosh, we won!!! I'm so excited!!!" It was "You suck, your fans suck, and we're better than you because we're Gonzaga."

It's one thing to acknowledge the Zag fans that were there with a simple applause (like our own players did to our students). It's a whole other thing to show up all the fans who were cheering for a team you were expected to beat and just barely escaped by the hair of your chinny chin chins.

But yes... some of it is just sour grapes/bitterness after the lost. But hey -there was a whole thread on the Zag board about St. Mary's players showing up your students after they won, wasn't there?

I think the thing that sticks in people's craw is that Goznaga has beat us in Portland something like 16 times in a row. They were the favorite in the game. Portland is obviously improving... in fact, we've improved so much that those two wins for Goznaga are among Gonzaga's best RPI-wise and could help cement their at-large bid.

So... respect your opponent. You already won the game - no need to show them up afterward.

Good comments Stonehouse. I don't know if there was a whole thread about St. Mary's showing us up. There probably was. I try to avoid our board after the losses because I can't stand the blame it on the refs posts and the WCC conspiracy nut jobs. It's a little more sane on here. I missed Sacre's behavior, but it is very possible it wasn't in the best taste. Taking your reaction from excitement to rubbing it in/taunting fans isn't appropriate. Gray was the one I saw doing a little of that, but it sounds like other were too. Maybe I missed some of the antics because I was still upset that the buzzer beater three made my -3.5 bet a loser. Good luck to the Pilots the rest of the way.

It was a discouraging loss, but there is still lite at the end of the tunnell.
Shooting 52% from 3pt range, but 37% overall shows how ineffective we were in the paint. Thats something that has to be addressedquickly and witrh only one scholarship left it will be difficult. The chosen "ONE" willhave to be super. Also Tim's shot was off for a good portion of the game and that hurt

How many guppie's did the kids miss from inside 3 pt land Evil or Very Mad ...one final note...little stockton will maybe be as good as Mickey that's if some more of his dad's genetics show up..he's got the same problem as Luke....half his genetic structure comes from mamma....
I bet Rev's got the bigs in the gym practicing guppies, or meditation (so they dont expend energy needed for a 40 minute game in the first five minutes against the evil empire)....good game to watch...especially when the Zags gave the preformance confused confused confused scratch bom at center court like they just beat a team to make the final four...ha,ha...

I wasn't at the game, but, I didn't really see it that way either. I saw Stephen Gray yelling and flexing a bit and happy about the GU victory...which definitely stung. But, he was also celebrating hitting some key jumpers for them toward the end of the game even before it ended.

The way that I saw the whole thing was that we were finally good enough that Gonzaga felt they had to celebrate a victory over us. I've seen them play ranked teams with lesser celebrations than they had against us. I didn't see it as, "You suck" at all. I saw it as, "Thank God, we escaped with a W." To me it was more a little bit of relief and celebration.

And as far as the stomping on the P goes, if that ignites a rivalry half as bitter as the UW vs. U of O football rivalry (when UW stomped on the O), I'm okay with it. Bring it! Because with some of the recruits coming through, there's absolutely no way GU will continue to dominate us in the coming years.

So what your saying is Rev and pew were talking about the weather after the game ??? C'mon time to think that response over again. Even mushroom man or Samhan have never acted that way in Portland... I believe they have a rule in the book called taunting..What is it with some of you Northwest guys that delight in POOR SPORTSMANSHIP...there are other ways rivalry's can be started or continued..... confused

I guarantee you if Gray had been on Bobby Knights,Coach K's , or Lute Olson's bench he would have recieved an "earful" from the coach about his behavior at the next time out...that's the kind of pressure John Calibrari,Bruce Pearl, and even lesser coachs like Few are under to "look" the other way to keep the best on their little spoiled, poorly raised "superstars" on their team,to retain their cushy prime time jobs...

I give Gray a pass, because he's always showed class...previously... and sometimes young kids make life mistakes when their caught up in the "heat" of competion. This current Zag team reminds me of why I miss players like MATT BOULDIN who just let their play do their talking...too bad he used to disapear sometimes during big games... he is who little fewey is missing with all the talent he's stockpiled on his team this year....thank God that kid was only there 4 years...it seemed like 8,lol.

I agree that taunting isn't classy, and at the same time, I love rivalries in sports and in there's no way that anyone can honestly tell me we deserved to win this game. We went on an early run, and then we became turnover prone and more inept at the offensive end. We never recovered and never regained the lead. It would have been nice if we could have hit enough 3s toward the end to pull this off, but, it was not to be. I was mourning this loss before it ended, so maybe I wasn't as affected by any taunting that occurred on the court.

Now, as far as Bobby Knight goes, he was a little bit overzealous in his disciplining at times, and that's well documented. I'm not a fan of Bobby Knight or PJ Carlisimo, but, I do appreciate a good disciplinarian as a coach maybe someone like Nate McMillan who doesn't tolerate much nonsense. Again, I wasn't at the game...and I'm sure some stuff happened that they didn't show on tv. But, kids are kids....and rivalries are rivalries too. Taunting always feels worse when you're on the losing side trying to swallow a bitter pill. Maybe guys like Sacre went a little bit nuts because he was still pissed about the hard foul that Kramer gave him across the face toward the end of the game. That honestly could have been called as a flagrant, but, that's no excuse for Sacre's behavior either. Let's move on now and use this as fuel to beat them at the tournament. I still like our teams' potential, and we have to cut town our turnovers to achieve our goals.

Interesting sequence of twits by Coach Rev. Too bad he's busy with the team; we fans need this coaching too.
Very late night watching tape to very early morning doing the same. Some "pages" are tougher to turn. Requires toughness and focus by all.
Fellow UP coach just said to me "that was our chance". I had to remind her missed opportunity perhaps but things have changed for good.
Sometimes I wish I bought this logic. RT @GreatestQuotes: "We didn't lose the game; we just ran out of time." - Vince Lombardi
Coach Eric Jackson did nice job helping the team "turn the page" today and get ready for Seattle. Limit TO's and rebounding is key.

So kind of Rev to help us all turn the page too... I think a few beers at the alumni pre game tonight will help me close that chapter.... as long as nobody says the Z word to me. Razz

Yeah, I totally disagree with the "that was our chance" quote...as if there's only one. Our program is still a work in progress, and with our recruits coming in we're going to have the athleticism needed to compete with teams like GU more consistently...and beat them. We've got the basketball IQ already...and a little bit more experience will help us to eliminate some mistakes as well. Plus, "that was our chance" implies that this season is over. Not by a long shot...

Sheesh, which coach said that? Hmmmm. I disagree as well.

There is still a lot of basketball yet to play. USF and SCU play tonight @USF, so the loser will have 3 losses... and both of those teams still have to come to Chiles and Spokane. If we are able to hold our own at home (particularly against whoever loses tonight), and in LA & @USD, we will be looking right back at 3rd or 4th place, and the important first round bye in Vegas.

At this point we need to cheer for SMC to win out (except vs. us, of course) and GU to win out (since they own the head-to-head tie breaker over us, and we need them to give losses to USF & SCU).

First things first, let's pummel Seattle U!

Well, we don't know context. You have to admit if we had finally knocked off the zags the dynamic now would be totally different.

But for sure it's a dream deferred , not a dream denied.

We absolutely will get there with Rev. Maybe it won't be at the pace we dream about, but we will get there.
