Kelsey has a new home

Post by PurpleGeezer on Wed Jan 12, 2011 1:02 pm

Kelsey Davis got picked up by the WPS's Boston team after being homeless after the breakup of the Chicago franchise.

Now she, Christine, and Megan have homes after their franchises folded.

Looks like she will have a friend joining her in Boston. Keelin Winters drafted in the first round. Congrats to Kelsey and Keelin.

AND they'll get to play against Elli, selected in the 1st round by the expansion Western New York Flash.

(But for how long... with almost as many defunct franchises as active ones, it doesn't look good)

WNY will be around a year, as will the other franchises. they had to come up with the money up front this year to fund a season.

Not sure with any of them after that.

The big question left is who wants to pick up Marta, win a championship, and go broke this year.

Sad how women soccer is underfunded, but that is the reality.

Maybe they'll have better luck with a restricted geographic area to limit travel costs.

I wonder if there would be support for two regional leagues, one in the NE and one on the West Coast? Teams wouldn't have to travel across country but there could be a "World Series" in the old-fashioned sense at the end of the year.
