NCAA quarterfinals Empty NCAA quarterfinals

The New York Times has a very good article on the growth of NCAA women's soccer, the trend toward parity, upsets in this year's tournament, and quarterfinal match-ups. The link:

Defying the trend toward parity, Stanford and ND reach the College Cup with identical 13-1 score totals across their four playoff rounds. Impressive.

Stanfords recruiting is paying off, no pun intended, along with good coaching.

Well done, Eagles. You were my favorite team for today.

Ohio State is the fourth team in the semis.

BC rounds out the quarter final competition with a 1-0 win over UW in the 95th minute.

Mixed emotions on that one...

The final four is Stanford vs, BC and ND vs. Ohio state.

I guess I have no reason to root against Ohio State, but BC just beat Syracuse on the gridiron today. So, go Buckeyes!! I predict Stanford, though, maybe even with two relatively easy wins.

That seems like a safe choice, but what has happened to ND? If they really beat UNC as badly as the score would suggest, then maybe they have caught fire at the end of the season. Or maybe they have injured players returning? Anyone know?

Good point - ND does seem to be coming on strong, and Stanford has a history of not winning the big one. I'm still a OSU fan, for the moment - definitely not a ND fan.

Well, ND did get a week's rest from the rigors of a conference tournament...

Of course, so did FSU.

Speaking of which...

I hear FSU will have a free weekend next fall. UP usually only plays one game the last week.

Maybe you can talk Mark K. into a trip out West, if he doesn't mind the travel. Razz

I would love to play Portland, every year! I have been disappointed in our ooc schedule of late, a game with Portland every year would be an excellent early test.
