Anybody attending or watching the game right now? We're off to a great start with the runs and all. I believe it was something like 29-9 a minute ago before UC-Davis ended a run. The guys seem to be continuing to roll on all cylinders...

-------------------

We're now up 21 pts..37-16. Our guys are shooting 78% and they are at 25%. Even if we cool down, this looks to be a lopsided game. It's very early though...

Just tuned in. Riley Tanner 15 points at halftime! Wow. 5 of 6 (3 for 3), with 2 FT's and 3 RBs. In 10 minutes. cheers

Luke, Kramer, Jasonn and Riley B all scoreless, with only 2 shots taken? Guess there is no inside game tonight.

The guard play was pretty stellar in the first half. In the second half, Riley Barker started to play like a WCC all freshman team candidate. He was all over the place. I love our outlet passes in this game!

Wow, Rev sure did clear the bench in the second half. Even Taylor Mossman, the walk on who I'd never heard of was in the game. Nice victory.

------------------------------------

At this rate Riley Tanner will make the all tournament team. Riley Barker seems to do more of the intangibles, and he seems to get quite a few minutes with the first team guys. Nice guard play all around in the first half. Waterford has some nice stutter steps, screen and roll plays, and a cross-over at times. Stohl was himself, and Mitrovic continues to be one of our most under-rated players on the team.

Nice line for Eric Waterford tonight: 20 minutes, 11 points, 6 assists, 1 TO, 1 steal, 1 PF. How did he look? I would like better than 3 of 6 on FTs.

62% from the field, 64% from three point range.

there's a lesson there. don't shoot inside the arc. they only give you two points for those.

"It was unbelievable," said head coach Gary Stewart when asked about the Portland shooting. "It was an avalanche. We knew what they were going to do and we knew who was going to shoot them. I thought we did a good job for the most part of getting out to contest shots."

"You have to give them credit," continued Stewart. "They knocked down shots and it really changed the complexion of the game."

And the Riley kid. is there anything Rev can d to build up his confidence a bit?

The run to open up the game was very impressive. I think we were 7/8 on 3's with 6 to go in the first half. We almost let them back in it when we were playing 4 freshmen and the JC transfer at the same time for a while (it got down to around 12 or 14 points). But then we picked it back up and got it back near 20. They were not playing bad. Just not as good as UC Davis.

Luke even made a three. That just ain't right.

If this is what new guys look like after one set of preseason practices with Rev and co. look out.

After watching the early game I would say FAU will be a good test for us. Like the Pilots they had some good shooters and some athletic big men. And a lot of them are young.

Game recap:

Portland Cruises Past UC Davis with Shooting Clinic

PORTLAND, Ore. --- Portland made 9-of-14 three-pointers and shot 71 percent from the field in the first half before sailing to a 75-60 victory over the UC Davis Aggies before 1,855 at the Chiles Center Saturday in the second game of the Athletes in Action Classic. The Pilots never trailed and led by as much as 26 points in the first period. Freshman Tanner Riley led Portland with 15 points, all coming before halftime.

Portland (2-0) will now face Florida Atlantic (2-0) in Sunday’s final of the AIA Classic with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The Owls defeated UW-Milwaukee 85-76 on Saturday to set up the matchup of unbeatens. Milwaukee and UC Davis take the court at 3 p.m.

Much like Friday’s season opening rout of Milwaukee, Portland came storming out of the gates with six three-pointers in the first 11 minutes and a string of 10 consecutive made field goals. Senior guard Jared Stohl, the national leader last year in three-point percentage, made all three of his attempts from beyond the arch in the first six minutes. Riley’s third consecutive three gave Portland a 27-8 lead with 9:09 remaining in the first period. A layup by freshman forward Ryan Nicholas gave UP its largest lead at 37-11 with 4:04 left and the home team entered the locker room with a 43-21 halftime lead.

Portland head coach Eric Reveno used his bench liberally in the second half as the Aggies would never get closer than 14 points down the stretch. All 13 Pilots available saw action, including extended minutes for six true freshmen.

“We tried to get the young guys some quality game experience in the second half,” Reveno said. “UC Davis made some good adjustments at halftime and got too comfortable against our zone in the second half. We made a few mistakes and allowed them to get some open shots, but overall the execution and effort by all our guys today was very good.”

As a team, Portland shot 62 percent from the field, 64 percent from three-point range and made 10-of-15 free throws. The Aggies were held to 38 percent shooting and 9-for-31 from beyond the arc. Portland also had a 33-23 rebounding advantage.

Four Pilots reached double figures for the second straight game. Stohl finished with 11 points, also all coming in the first period. Junior guard Eric Waterford added 11 points and six assists, while junior wing Nemanja Mitrovic chipped in 11.
