The was a pretty even game between BYU and UCLA tonight to kick off the weekend. Nearly even in shots and corners, although the UCLA keeper had to make more saves. it went into the second overtime at 0-0 and went to shootout.

The BYU keeper took the second shot which went over the bar, the next player got blocked. UCLA got their fourth (bywaters) blocked, the next blocked also.

then BYU got a third shot blocked and the bruins got their last one.

Bruins advance 4-3

Just further evidence that BYU joining our conference is a good thing! We won't have to rely on Santa Clara an hope Pepperdine an San Diego an maybe another WCC team to have good records to boost our RPI. BYU does that automatically. They have been a quality program even when they were just a club team.

Anyone up for predicting which seeds don't make it through the weekend? Here are my guesses:

UCF loses at UCLA (that was an easy one)
Texas A&M loses at 40-degree Minnesota
Okla State falls to Ore State at home

I'm currently watching the Maryland game, which is surprisingly tied 1-1.
The free video feed is very impressive, with good camera work, on screen stats and slow motion replay.

Boston College wins 2-1 over Boston University. BU was up most of the game, but BC scored two goals in the last 15 minutes. Pretty even on stats.

Texas A&M and North Dakota State tied 1-1 at the end of regulation. TAMU has a lot more shots, but NDS has quite a few more corner kicks.

Southern Cal up on Illinois 1-0 at the half in what looks to be a defensive battle, with only 3 shots on goal. USC has 14 first-half fouls and a yellow card. If the second half is the same, that would be 28 fouls, and it's hard to imaging 11 players still on the field for USC at the end if they keep it up.

Virginia and Lehigh 0-0 at the half. Maryland and High Point 1-1 at the half. Ohio State and St. Francis (PA) 0-0 at the half. North Carolina and Florida State winning comfortably.

The NCAA website seems to think that Oklahoma beat UW 4-0, while Gametracker lists the four UW players who scored. I assume UW did win?

Nice to see Santa Clara beat Long Beach, despite being outshot 22-5.

Less than ordinary, I'd say. The score could have easily matched our UTSA margin. The Huskies were running in space the whole game. The PAC 10 is looking strong and the Big 12 weak. Sunday will be a real battle for us. The OSU-OSU game will also be interesting -- can the Beavers get a few past the great keeper in Stillwater?

From my perspective, it was very interesting to watch UW play. It was a completely different set of plays than what they used during the regular season against UP. They tried (and most of the time succeeded) in emulating the UP offense against Oklahoma.
Sitting amongst the UW fans, they said the refs in the regular season game with Portland were homers...I thought they were from California.
If the same obnoxious fan that spouted obscenities during the regular season game is there, I WILL report him to security...there will be a lot of kids at the game on Sunday.

UW can play football when they want to. When up against Portland they know they have a tough time hanging with the Pilots so they will resort to fouling to stop attacks just as they get started. I'm fine with playing defensively and putting lots of people back but not with breaking the rules.

purp passion an ppt,
wow! am i glad that i am not alone [so i perceive from your posts] in thinking fuskie fan is entitled an arrogant!! they have never ever commited a foul and are always fouled when they lose possession or are scored against! the regular season game this year perfectly illistrated that with u of w aquiring numerous yellow cards for mostly dangerous play. i have always told the novices i bring to u of p games that the less skilled the opponent, the more they foul.

I didn't even mention they way they like to delay the game by standing next to the ball when the other team has a free kick. They did that Friday night too.

I hear that Huskies also take candy from small children and don't want to save the whales. If the ref doesn't punish such villainy, Pilot goal-scorers will.
