Anyone else find it kinda funny that the oregonlive home page has nothing on the pilots beating the #11 team but OSU squeaks by an unranked UW and it garners the front page? Typical.

Good for OSU, but um, not even a copy and pasted blurb?

Agree with this, especially since we beat the #12 team and our traditional rival. That deserves a mention... possibly the O got a stringer out of San Jose and they are still waiting for the story? I wonder.

Having said that... I think a point can be made that because Oregon State's season has been such a surprise, it's a tad more newsworthy. Portland is always in the Top 5, you know what I mean? And The Oregonian has always give us terrific coverage for women's soccer. Also, you have to remember that OSU has a dedicated beat writer in Paul Buker, and he's super active with blog posts and on his Twitter and all that.

Rather than a slight to the Pilots, I'd chalk this one up to an eager beat writer with a new story to tell.

Oh I know, that's what I figured as well... Plus there are a lot more OSU alums out there than Pilots. Hahaha if you look at the post on oregonlive it's actually a story from a small Seattle paper rehashed on the Beavs athletic site and THEN quoted by the Oregonian... That's some seriously invested reporting Razz

Guess the attendance.

695. Yes, that's what the box score says.

I would prefer OSU as I want to see a team that plays football instead of one who kicks its opponents.
If OSU is a top-16 seed, that would take them out of the equation as a hosting partner, right? If they win out (except for Stanford), I see that as a possibility. If they also beat or tie Stanford (not unthinkable), I think a seed for them is likely.

For fun, I just tried "random finishes" on the nc-soccer.com website:
  • 4 cases where OSU lost to Stanford, but won other 3 games: URPI rank in the 17-19 range.
  • 1 case where OSU tied Stanford and won the other 3 games: URPI rank of 17.
  • 2 cases where OSU won all 4 games (including Stanford): URPI rank in the 13-14 range.

Totally agree. Portland looked dominant at times, especially possessing the ball. Santa Clara had their chances, but that's going to happen over a 90 minutes game against a highly ranked team. On the whole, Portland mopped the field with the Broncos. Kendell was relentless on the wing and creating tons of great opportunities. And Jessica Tsao... what can you say about her? She's incredible and is so dangerous coming out of the back as an attacker. Also love it when Cloee makes her occasional runs up front - can't wait to see her do more of that as her career progresses. It's easy to forget she's still a freshman. Wow.

Speaking of freshman, kudos to Michelle Cruz for holding her own in the middle. Not too many freshmen could fill in for Sophie, but she's doing an admirable job.

But man... if Portland plays like this, heading into the playoffs with Sophie coming back and Kendra getting more and more minutes... the possibilities tantalize.

Awesome job by the team today... 5-0 in WCC play, 17-1 overall, 5 or 6 wins over ranked teams, a lock to earn a #1 seed if they win out... I keep saying it this year, but man are we spoiled as fans. Maybe it's time to stop worrying about "style points" or whatever and just enjoy the ride. It's another magical season at Merlo Field.

Also, Sunday's game against USF is the final regular season home game for Keelin, Elli, Jessica, Kendra, Sara, and Kristin... and Sophie too, but sadly she won't be there. It's senior day and they will all be honored... if that's not a reason to come out on spend a few hours at The Bluff on Halloween, I don't know what is!

Briana Scurry loved to say the "flank" word.
Notice how the camera kept on showing Brandi Chastain for the entire 4th quarter? Maybe the Camera team was hoping for a Santa Clara goal and the possible top to come off?

Perfect road trip. Great for the confidence building without Sophie.

Did I hear drums? I wonder if they brought in the pep drummers for the big game or is that a normal thing for them to have drums? Could be the battle of the drum groups someday. Sounded like they actually held a beat for over a minute or two....

Next Sunday my daughter (I guess I should call her Harriet (Harry-ette)) has a game and so I will miss the final regular season game of Elli, Jess, Keelin, Kendra, Sara, and Kristin. Hard to miss senior day, but Harriet trumps Pilots. Sigh.

He makes it sound like they tied us.

Taking on the No. 2 team in the country is not an easy task and we played them dead-even today and had great chance to get a win.

I can't believe the lack of support! Maybe it's a break week for their students or something, but even still they should get more than 700 for this rivalry. Merlo would be full for SC in worse weather than that...

According to Santa Clara's website, they do not have a break either last week or this week.

The score means absolutely nothing. Traditionally, a road win in this rivalry has been very hard to come by.

This senior class won two straight on the road. Never been done before.

Further, SCU will graduate a class of seniors who have never seen their team score on UP. Next year is at home. I fully expect SCU will see a second class have the same experience.
