Re: All-WCC Teams Announced: Keelin is POY, Jessica is DOY
The First Team is lining up in an old school 2-3-5. The second team is in a more modern, pragmatic 4-5-1. When you have Cloee at the back you can get away with a 1-6-3.
But seriously, a well deserved award for Keelin. Sometimes the player who dominates the game doesn't show up as a goalscorer on the stat sheet.

Re: All-WCC Teams Announced: Keelin is POY, Jessica is DOY
The lesson here is that if you are going to play for the Canadian National team during league play you might not be considered for POY or even make the First Team. Congatulations to Keelin and all players honored. I am a little disappointed to see no mention of Sophie for all WCC, but then it is understandable under the circumstances.
Sophie should make the all tournament team if we can make a run, or so I hope. And, if that happens, alls well that ends well.

No Sophie on any of the lists?Stonehouse wrote:A very hearty and well-deserved congratulations to Keelin and Jessica!!! And, of course, all the other Pilots who made the All-WCC teams (10 in all!)
Do they only look at WCC games, where she might not have played enough to be considered?

Exactly right.
The coaches voting for All-WCC teams in any sport can only consider performance in WCC games. It's only fair that way, because that's when each team's schedule is equal. (Or, at least, as close to equal as possible.)
So, while of course Sophie would have likely been POY had she played in conference games, since she didn't... the rules precluded the coaches from voting for her.

More like FUTURISTIC with a 5-5-1... They are so good they don't even require a netminder!

Build your defense around Joey Barton, Lee Cattermole, and Nigel de Jong and most forwards wouldn't even try to get through.DaTruRochin wrote:PurplePrideTrumpet wrote:The second team is in a more modern, pragmatic 4-5-1. When you have Cloee at the back you can get away with a 1-6-3.

Re: All-WCC Teams Announced: Keelin is POY, Jessica is DOY
I was a little surprised Cloee made a team besides the Freshman team.
Policy must have changed. Christine was only given the freshman award because the policy at the time was they weren't eligible for the other ones.

I'm not an expert on policies, but, when it's all said and done I think this will just be one of many awards for Cloee. She has a knack for getting her foot onto the ball and clearing effectively at crucial times of the game.

It might be that red-shirt freshman are considered differently from true freshmen in this case.

Anyone notice no GK on the 2nd team. Awfully hard to stop goals without one.

Lest we forget the worthy opponents: Michelle Pao, Fr., D/F, Pepperdine -- one to watch for 3 more years. She stood out against the Pilots.
The entire Pilots defense deserves every award for excellence all season.
