Recruiting Tidbits...
Saw this on my Google news alert today:
http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/blogs/recruiting/50043688-54/chatman-offer-recently-state.html.csp
UP has offered Jordan Chatman, a guard from Vancouver, Wash.
Also saw this on Facebook of all places... UP has offered Collin Woods, a PG from Arizona:

Good stuff.
We should have 4 scholarship spots open for 2011-12 (after losing Stohl, Sikma, Knutson & Hannibal)...

Good job, Stoney. Good to see Woods got offered by two Ivys, so he must be a good student.
Good to se also that he has so many offers.
I hope we get Chatman. it's about time we started getting some of the local talent.

From the article, it seems Jordan Chatman's heart is with BYU, if he gets an offer. And lots of options for Collin Woods, very impressive list of offers.
I would also like to see some local talent, especially from the Metro and PIL leagues. It has been a very long time since we had any local players from south of the CR.

Yeah, Woods has the 1520 SAT score to go along with a 3.25 GPA and being a 4 star recruit. You can't beat that, but, it looks like we have less competition for Chatman...especially if he doesn't get an offer from BYU.

Re: Recruiting Tidbits...
Both look like outstanding possibilities for the Pilots
Just FYI, Chatman is an incoming junior so he is in the class of 2012 while Woods is a senior this year.
I'll post what ESPN says about both tomorrow

Re: Recruiting Tidbits...
Looks like there is mutual interest for Danny Cheek, a 6'3" guard from the OC:
http://theocnow.com/2010/08/10/cdm-basketball-moves/
"Another CdM player garnering attention is Danny Cheek, a first-team All-Pacific Coast League selection. Schachter said the University of Portland is recruiting the 6-3 guard hard.
“He wants to go there,” Schachter said of Cheek, who led the Sea Kings in scoring, averaging 13.8 points per game last season as a junior. “He really likes Portland, but he wants to take an official visit. That could be the best fit, but he’s going to look and see what other schools are interested. There’s interest from UC [Santa Barbara], [Northern Arizona University], Boise State and Northern Colorado.”

Thanks Stonehouse,
You know this is the time of year when I really "jones" for my fix of Pilot's Mens Basketball. Your the best...Plus this year I've promised to be on my best behavior
toward fans of other Pilot Sports Programs, hey,he!!!
It looks like we have a good shot at him considering the other schools are similar programs. It is nice to see he has interest from these other schools.

Now is the time of the summer when teams are grabbing guys on minimum deals -- even make good deals, meaning they can be cut at training camp -- to round out their roster. Guys 11 to 15 on the depth chart.
And Adam Morrison's phone is not ringing.
In a fascinating look at Morrison -- from the overexposed college player to the No. 3 pick not ready for the burden, to his time getting two rings while never setting foot on the court during a finals game with the Lakers -- the shooter talks about his future in the league with Andy Kamenetzky of ESPNLosAngeles.com.
"I think I could be a really good sixth man," suggests the forward. "I know I could still score. I've done it my whole life and I did it even in practices with the Lakers. You can ask any of the guys." (For what it's worth, various Lakers constantly praised Morrison's ability to push starters during practice. As Odom insisted, "Leave him open and he'll embarrass you.")
Morrison will not be back with the Lakers. Any offensive potential coaches thought he had was masked by defensive issues. He was never going to get much run.
Last season most of his attempts came in a spot-up situation, but he shot just 29.7 percent on those, and 15 percent from three (according to Synergy Sports) It's hard to read much into any of his statistics because he got such little run -- he got in to only 33 Lakers games and played an average of 7 minutes in those games -- but he didn't grab the opportunities he had.
If you look across the country you see JJ Redick -- the guy Morrison was tied to so often in college -- who has rounded out his game, who has become more than a shooter. There was demand for Redick this summer by contending teams.
Morrison wants to be that guy. He worked out for teams in Vegas while Summer League was going on. Still no offers. At this point, you'd expect some team to at least give him an invite to camp, a chance to earn a spot. To see if he can be that light-it-up guy off the bench, at least some nights.
But he has yet to really shoot efficiently at the NBA level, and while he believes he can score he is going to have to prove it now. If he gets the chance.
If he doesn't?
"If it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. I'll just go into something else. It's just one of those things."
Good boy.

Re: Recruiting Tidbits...
Oh, don't tempt me. Good find GEEZ. I think the key word/phrase in that whole article is mentioning that JJ Reddick has WORKED ON ROUNDING OUT HIS GAME.
I think Morrison could also stand to gain from quitting smoking, and chewing tobacco which I cant understand a guy who's already got health problems with Diabetes continues to partake in.
Maybe he could grow physically(maybe try lifting a weight),and get a better grip on Professional Basketball by spending some time in Europe. IMO most of the NBA looks at him as a "Flop". He was a heck of a shooter in college, one would think with his height if he got his act together in the next year or two he could finish out a fine journeyman career in the NBA.
I think the clock is starting to tick, tock, on his Basketball career which is pretty remarkable when you see what guys like Steve Kerr who didn't have as much talent but had their act together did while they played in the NBA.Kerr had that instinctive, Unselfish feel for the game that one doesnt see often
I really almost felt bad for the kid the way Jimmy Kimmel unmerciously mad fun of him during the Lakers championship series, lets hope a little anonymity and less pressure of a big contract will help the young guy out. Even if he is a ex-Zaggette it would be nice to see him regain some old form rather than 20 years from now be talking about how we saw him as a door greeter for the VIP's at the Zag-UP game in Spokane.
Sounds like he has a weak agent
(I would sure want to if my pay was a comission percentage on his next contract) if the guy can't get him a job in the NBA, or a SCREAMING deal with a EURO team.

Mesa, you could really get to like soccer. it has suspense, drama, good guys and bad guys. And a score really means something. it doesn't happen every 1.83 seconds like some other sports.
It's even got your favorite player reaction

that's portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo doing the Morrison imitation.

Re: Recruiting Tidbits...
Great Pic Geez,lol
I did watch World Cup but like most novices during the USA's last game I'm jumping up on the couch yelling at the announcer to tell me how much time is left. It's confusing enough that the clock runs the way it does for a dopey head like Mesa. Then throw in the extra period, the guy from the other team falling on the ground, feigning injury while the clock tick tocks away. By that time I had resigned myself to a USA loss so I could keep half the hair on my head from being pulled out.
Then I top it off in a prior game I turned the England-USA game off and went and did something else, I figured the USA would get "creamed". Highlights seemed to make it the game to help my national pride, but no I turned it off and went and did something mundane
Maybe this year I'll catch a UP soccer game, but I would have to sit by U or Nut or Stoney to catch all the complexities of the game.Otherwise I may start yelling at the timekeeper and asking if he was related to our esteemed BB dir of officials LIBBy when the clock was running backward, lol.

Re: Recruiting Tidbits...
That happened two years ago in a tournament game at UP. The ref set the clock back in a game Texas and somebody were playing. (adding time to the game is not allowed in college) the Texas coach went ballistic, then went after the ref at the end of the game.
Great stuff.
