My math perspective.The University of Portland received 11,382 applications for admission for Fall 2010, topping the previous all-time high of 9,352, set last year. This marks the fifth consecutive year the University has received a record number of applications. The number of applications received hasnearly doubledincreased by 80 percent since 2006, when the University had 6,355 applicants.

Sorry to get back to the original intention of the topic, but...
I don't feel like whipping out a calculator and I barely passed Ron Smit's Calculus class, but isn't 45% of 11,000 closer to 5,000 than 820? There are seriously 4,000 prospective Pilots who are accepted but choose to go elsewhere.
