GU Love

Post by up7587 on Wed Mar 17, 2010 12:04 pm

In an on-line poll at ESPN.com, 75% of the country thinks Gonzaga is a better basketball coaching job than Oregon. This is with 9000 votes. Amazing. Pac-10 prestige and $'s, brand new arena, Nike resources, and there is still a perception that the GU job is a better job. Even though they play in the WCC.

As if our red-clad neighbors didn't have big enough heads already! Rolling Eyes

At this point I would have to agree. I am sure that they pay well, they draw lots of fans. Have a much easier time making the tourney.

Now with the new arena and a good coach, that can change around very quickly for UO. But at this point in time, I would have to agree. Even though it is hard to maintain a program like Gonzaga, it is probably harder to rebuild one.

Although with the resources UO has... Not THAT hard... As long as you can deal with they hyper-exaggerated set of expectations of alumni, well at least of the one alumnus that actually matters (and seems to be in charge of any major personnel decisions...)

Too bad the Gonzaga job requires you to live in Spokane.

I saw this in a Bud Withers article about Mark Few.
Then there's this: "I don't think he feels quite as appreciated as he did three or four years ago," said somebody familiar with Few. "People start bitching. They've gotten pretty unrealistic."

There are Zags zealots who have forgotten where they were a dozen years ago. They had never won an NCAA tournament game in 1998, and now they've won 15. But the monster has a big appetite in college sports, and the buzz is, there was a good deal of grumbling when Gonzaga got whacked by Saint Mary's in the WCC final.

"Zag zealots"? I am shocked, shocked to find out there are Zag zealots. Shocked

If he thinks people are being unrealistic now, wait until he gets to Oregon.
