SuperClasico
It's Sunday the 21st at Noon at La Bonbonera in Boca, BA.
For those of you living under a rock, it's the Premier rivalry in South America - twice a year River Plate v. Boca Juniors. and it's on most soccer fan's list of things to do before you die.
I have DTV, and it shows the game at 9:00 PM Sunday night the 21st (FSE) . BA is 5 hours ahead (6 hrs with Daylight Savings), so though I am normally opposed to delayed broadcasts I think this was a good call.
Put this one on your calendar if you want to witness a real soccer spectacle. I'll be camped in front of the set with a six pack of Quilmes ( unless I can find a Jerome or two) and wearing my Boca shirt. (Riquelme version)
And if anyone puts a spoiler on this thread I'll hunt you down.

something that NEVER happens in futbol. For the first time ever, the game was called because of torrential rains.
The ref called it after 9 minutes, saying the conditions were impossible. The rain was pretty outrageous. the pitch looked like a pond. The linesmen didn't know where the lines were.
They wanted to play the final 81 minutes on Wednesday, but it's a day of remembrance for the victims of a military coup.
The first chance they will have is Thursday.
Maybe Beaverton Golf can lay a sod/sand field for them....

Did you return the Quilmes to the fridge, or drink them anyway?

Once it's opened, it has to be finished.

I got to watch independiente and Rosario play a game in the same storm. I guess they had better drainage.

Wow, that still is pretty telling. Haha, not that anyone who grew up playing in the PNW hasn't dealt with playing in weather like that (or worse) at some point or another...

I played soccer in the rain last for a for a while Sunday. Great fun. I like attacking the players who start to hang their heads who look like they want to leave the field...

Try playing in driving sleet in Boston in mid-November, with the old-type leather balls. Now, that's really fun!

The ones with the laces on them? They WERE fun
They played out the rest of the game Thursday... Boca won 2-0 on 2 goals from Chilean Gary Medel, who then got himself thrown out of the game for anger management issues.
After the first goal, the Boca fans started singing the relegation songs. River is near the bottom of the league and in danger of relegation next fall.
Wow!

UPSF replies: Yep, those were the ones. It was especially fun when the surface of the ball got worn down a little so that the ball absorbed water. If you headed one of those, the ball pretty much headed you rather than vice versa. Playing in slush was good too, because it stuck to the ball.
