2010 signings

Post by PurpleGeezer on Thu Feb 04, 2010 9:16 pm

The first two have popped up on the spyder.

Amanda Frisbie got a nice writeup here:

http://mckinneynews.net/news.php?nid=13023&cat=1

Complete with cake, Balloons, and a smile.

Sarah Bridges gets a mention in the Valley times:

http://www.beavertonvalleytimes.com/sports/story.php?story_id=126530723276222600

As a bonus, The same article mentions Rob Baarts' son Tyler will play for the men's team. Three Baart's on the field at once may be more than I can handle Very Happy

Just in from the Women's Soccer Recruiting website: Micaela Capelle will be coming to UP this coming year rather than going to Oregon. She's a forward from Barlow HS. If I recall correctly, one of you who went out to the recent game at Nike to get a look at some of the Pilots' recruits thought she was the best player on the field.

2010 Recruits

Post by wrv on Wed Feb 10, 2010 7:27 am

Are we creating a logjam at forward? I am not unhappy to see us receive a commitment from someone otherwise headed to the Ducks, but finding a place on the field may be complicated. Let's hope the assesment from the exhibition is correct and that Micaela Cappele herself proves to be a gem, only discovered late.

She was Mt. Hood POY, Oregonian all state 1st team and ESPN Rise had her on their all state team, so she must bring something. Her picture is linked:

For the most part, I think you just want to recruit good players and not worry too much about positions (except keepers). If someone is a good player, she will get onto the field. Remember, Jessica (I think) was recruited as a forward, and I'm sure there have been many others - probably Elli.

some others come to mind. Sophie holding mid, Keelin as a forward, and my personal favorite - Lindsey Huie as a defender.

I wasn't following the team when Huie played. Was she a mid? It's unusual to go from defender in high school to more of an offensive position in college - usually the other way around.

She started in defence (I'll spell it Clive's way).

After a couple of runs that opened people's eyes she moved into the midfield. I think during the 2002 championship game she was playing outside right, maybe some AM. Then she went to AM full time the following year and stayed here until Megan Rapinoe moved there her freshman year.

She was again at outside right mid for the 2005 season,

I think Clive's comment was "I let her play wherever she wants. I try not to tell her too much"

This can only be good news. I think we all will be delighted with Micaela Cappele. She is not big, but she was very impressive in the club game at Merlo about a month ago. She is very quick, thoughtful in her placements, seems to have an excellent first touch, and showed a very strong shot on one of her goals.

jc,
your description of michaela cappele sounds like the perfect attacking mid to me. another angie kerr, nee woznuk perhaps?
i always loved angie's touch and vision. before angie, i was a huge fan of erin misaki. both fast/quick, great vision an touch. i think i'm getting goose bumps!! of course, meg goes without saying.

Today's Oregonian says Sarah Bridges was named the Gatorade Oregon Player of the Year...shouldn't be a surprise, she was named AP player of the year a couple of weeks ago.

Man! I am just smiling ear to ear! This seems to be an outstanding recruiting class! I think 4 of them...Sarah Bridges, Amanda Frisbie, Michelle Cruz and Ellen Parker may be good enough to earn some significant PT as freshmen! But considering who's already on our starting lineup...Wow! Our opponents will have no breathing room when any player from this 2010 class are rotated in. The roster is stacked! We are deep deep deep with talent. Kudos to the coaches....awesome job getting these players signed.

Will Capelle be this season's Taylor Brooke?

And I haven't even talked about the 2 new GKs. I have every confidence that Haillie will start. I think her maturity via the red shirt year plus her obvious athletic skills will win her that job. She's a Kelsey clone. But who else can say they have 2 national team experience GKs backing her up?

Can't wait for the 2010 season to start!

GO PILOTS!!!

phantom,
i agree with you an our amazing riches! a couple of frosh this past year that saw little if not very little playing time might see significantly increased minutes this season as halley kremenski did this last year. i think elinor priest is this years halley. the other frosh is molly klier. she reminds me of brooke o'hanley an i think she will see many more minutes this coming season.
of course i didn't mention kendall and taylor. they had an immediate impact on this team.

Michelle is listed on the roster as a midfielder. For the January camp, from which the roster was selected, Michelle was listed as a forward.
