2010 National Team Commitments?

Post by SoreKnees on Mon Dec 07, 2009 2:17 pm

We were blessed this year not to lose any players to national team duty. I've been trying to do a little research about next year, but have not found too much. Here's what I've been able to glean:

The U20 World Cup, which pulled three Pilots in 2008, will be held July 13 - August 1, 2010 in Germany, so we shouldn't have to worry about that.

There is no U23 World Cup, but the Nordic Cup (top international competition at that level) is supposed to return after being canceled in 2009. I've not been able to find any dates, but it's usually in the summer.

There seems to be no schedule yet for CONCACAF qualifying for the 2011 Women's WC, but it will surely be happening in 2010. I would expect that we might lose Sophie Schmidt for a few weeks for that, but it doesn't seem likely that any U.S. players will get called from UP for USWNT duty.

Does anyone have any additional information? Based on what I've been able to find, it sounds like only Sophie is likely to be missing at all, and perhaps we'll only lose her for a game or two.

If the most we have to deal with - in terms of losing players to national team duty - is Sophie for a couple of games mid-season then I'd sign up for that deal right now. I love Sophie but having her gone for a couple of games is just a chance for some other players to get quality time, which helps come playoffs.
