Pilots at NCAA XC 2009
Half way through and no update yet.....This coverage is killing me. Only showing the top 4 runners, only one team update so far which showed only the top 5 teams. Feels too much like pro competition coverage where there are no teams.

The guy from liberty is amazing, but maybe there is more to the National championship than Chelanga....

Re: Pilots at NCAA XC 2009
Wow. So the first 10 guys cross the line, then they cut to commercial. You gotta be kidding me. As a letsrun commenter noted, they need the cycling guys to cover this. Fans want to know what's going on in the pack. If watched the whole race but missed the first and last 5 min, you'd think there were only 4 guys racing each other.

Re: Pilots at NCAA XC 2009
13th certainly isn't what we hoped for, but really this is an extremely young team. 2010 will be better. And 2011 is the year I would expect us to be fielding our strongest team considering the current roster.

Re: Pilots at NCAA XC 2009
Summary from O-Live:
LINK
Oregon's men had been given up for dead after losses to Stanford and the Pac-10 and West Regional meets. But the Ducks ran very well at the NCAA Championships outside Terre Haute, Ind. today -- with four runners in the top 31.
The Ducks were 16 points back of Oklahoma State, which won the championship and was led by sixth-year senior Ryan Vail of Gresham's Centennial High School.
The live television coverage provided by Versus focused almost exclusively on race winner Sam Chelanga, who threw down a 4:21 mile and left everyone behind. Chelanga went through the 5,000 meters -- halfway -- in an astonishing 14:09. The Liberty runner, second to Galen Rupp a year ago, ripped 22 second off Rupp's course record.
Matt Centrowitz, Kenny Klotz and Danny Mercado stepped up big for the Ducks, finishing between 27th and 31st. Ahead of them, sophomore Luke Puskedra was 22nd.
"We came together and made a pact to put out our best race at nationals," Klotz said.
It was a disappointing day for Portland, hoping to finally exceed its best-ever finish of seventh with a strong front pack. But senior Tommy Betterbed didn't run as well as he did at regionals. And Joash Osoro, who was running terrific through 8,000 meters, began to fade with a pain in his stomach. Ososo went from about 30th to 70th in the last mile, according to UP coach Rob Conner.
The Oregon women finished ninth. Freshman Jordan Hasay led the team, placing 18th.
Villanova upset top-ranked Washington to win the team title.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — The University of Oregon women’s cross country team, which had hoped to earn a trophy at the NCAA championships, had to settle for a ninth place finish here Monday.

The Ducks had 276 points. Oregon’s top finisher was freshman Jordan Hasay, who finished 18th in 20 minutes, 23 seconds. Nicole Blood was 48th in 20:54, follow by Alex Kosinski, 81st in 21.10; Claire Michel, 87th in 21.11 and Lauren Zaludek, 113th in 21:18.

Hm looks like the 5 man spot bit us hard....Betterbed at 87th as the fourth man, then Frerker in 177th for 5th man. Waiting for team results to see how this affected us.

Yes, the five spot wiped us out again. Still no team results as they've posted the Division Three results by mistake where the DI results are supposed to be..

Re: Pilots at NCAA XC 2009
If we would have had a 100th place finish for number five that would have put us in the sixth/seventh range. 13th is not what I was hoping for, but with a young squad like this it is not too bad. Would have been nice to improve on our 7th place finishes.
Looks like Stanford was 9th, they were also hurt by their 5th runner (180).
Congrats Pilots!

Re: Pilots at NCAA XC 2009
Looking at the results a little closer, 'Chumba finished fourth among sophomores. Osoro and Dunbar were 4th and 5th among frosh. So for a young team those aren't too shabby of results. I don't know what Connor has for runners redshirting this year or in terms of recruits...and I hate saying this because of what the basketball team has done to me time and time again...but just wait till next year.
