Garrett's poker face probably reflects his anxiety of knowing that a team is most vulnerable right after they score a goal.

And, Garrett clearly had good reason not wanting his team to be over-celebrating. We haven't discussed it, but the lead-in to the corner kick that resulted in UW's score occurred almost immediately after the score. Our back got faked out and the coverage couldn't get there soon enough, resulting in our giving up the corner. Only mistake that back has made all year.

I asked Garrett after the game if it got his heart rate up. He said, nope, not really, and then, well, maybe a little.

His bio in the program does note he's famous for his poker face.

New Pilot intro music?

The best part of the UW game for me came the day after when the Oregonian ran a photo of Halley K.'s face atop the front page with the news of the Pilots win. The big version of that pic on the Sports page shows her with her long sleeves tugged down halfway over her hands for warmth -- somehow that detail made me smile. 2 goals -- quite a tournament scoring feat! Can't wait to see the next game Friday.

I was watching the video highlights and the player who got the red card does not look to be the one who committed the second foul?

Also, I wish they would show the opposing team goals and they did not show the last yellow they called on Dani. Other teams show both side's goals, why can UP?

I agree. I'm grateful to have the videos at all, but I wish the video highlights would show a bit more of the flow of the game. Obviously, I understand that UP is creating the videos (and they will rightfully be skewed to show more UP highlights), but I would like a more representative replay of the game's highlights--both sides. All (or at least most) goals scored on both sides. If the opposition makes a great play, show it. Oh, and I would prefer to keep the highlights in order... start of the game to finish...
My 2 Cents

I got it wrong, #6 was the one who fouled and got the red card. Other player was the one who was arguing the call.

I agree the out of order plays mess up the flow of the videos.

Watching the video, I couldn't help but notice Sophie's excellent feeds to set up Halley's goals. She seems to have become even more of a team leader in Michelle E's absence.

I noticed that more than once over the weekend. My biggest worry about losing Michelle is that she was the most creative player on the squad. Often this season the other players have been content to kick the ball around patiently, perhaps sometimes too patiently, waiting for something to happen. Michelle was the one who made something happen. Sophie seems to be stepping into that role seamlessly and the chemistry will only get better as the team becomes more used to her in that role.

I totally agree with you SoreKnees re: Sophie Schmidt. Towards the end of the first half it was obvious Schmidt was getting frustrated and was trying to force plays, but in the second half when she was back in the center mid position, her real talents were able to shine and she created some beautiful passing and several serious scoring threats. When M.E. got hurt I was pretty pessimistic about our odds of making it to the College Cup, but now looking at the UW game, it seems pretty clear that Schmidt is the heart of this Pilots team and it's a very strong heart! Personally she's always been one of my faves because not only is she indomitable, but she's a bruiser, too.

That is also why you will probably see Hallie in for Charney sooner rather than later - not because Charney is playing poorly, but because Sophie needs to have the ball. I do love the way she plays.

also, as i have stated before, it is pretty evident that soph an halley have a really good chemistry an feel for each other. halley is listed in the roster as a mf/f. i can see her assuming soph's role when soph greduates. their styles are very simular. strong, good at trapping the ball and making god reads an passes.
having said that, it doesnt include who may be recruited in the next year or so, but i see halley as sophie's successor
