Wow... Quite the melodrama down in Berkeley...
And to just quit mid season on all those players who chose Cal over other opportunities after 2 tough losses? Shameful.

Disgusting. What does that teach your players? To quit if you have a few hard days? How must the players feel about themselves and their confidence? What a horrible move.

Re: Cal coach
You have to wonder what this guy has going on behind the scenes. I mean, to just quit? Very odd. by the sound of the quotes by his players, doesn't sound like they would be thrilled to have him back either.

Re: Cal coach
The lack of "we wish him the best" and "hope he comes back soon" sentiments by the players are quite telling.
Good riddance.

Re: Cal coach
You have to wonder why Kelley Lindsey was brought in as a "volunteer coach"
I think something was up between Mcguire and the AD or something. It also sounds like the players won't miss him.
I suspect it wasn't just the SAC State game. he might have lost touch with his players, maybe over that change to the 3-4-3 and their success with it.

Ther must be a lot of (stuff) going on behind the scenes that people at Cal can't or won't talk about ... yet. What a mess! Too bad that a talented team has to endure this type of BS.

I just looked up Cal's 2010 class - pretty impressive, with a number of players with various types of national team experience. The coach seemed to have things headed in the right direction, recruit-wise. Maybe he's just a crummy coach.
I am not familiar with any of their recruits, but I have heard of Bennett, and I notice she is from up UP's way. Let's hope she sees the light.

Re: Cal coach
It sounds from the article that the Cal coach has an anger management problem. He would to well to look to Garrett Smith as a role model for how to properly handle anger. When Garrett got pissed off on Sunday he got up off the bench (!), gathered his girls around him for a talk (!!) , and told them to gather their stuff and go straight to the locker room after the game (!!!). For a coach who rarely leaves the bench during the game, this was the equivalent of going through the roof.
I do feel sorry for the Cal players. They had a good season going until the 2 recent losses. After their opening loss to Portland, they had strung together 6 wins and a draw and were ranked in the top 10. I hope that they can right their ship and do well in PAC-10 play, if only for the sake of Portland's RPI.

And just like that, he's back.
I don't really care about Cal either way, but I'm offended on behalf of those girls. That coach is wantonly wasting the time of those student-athletes with his baloney. I wonder whose best interests the athletic director has in mind with the decision to bring him back.

Re: Cal coach
Obviously there is more to the story than we know, and I hope he gets things worked out. Still, I dont like it... you dont just quit on your team.
If you are having outside issues, there are much better ways to handle a "leave" that to just up and quit... but then to be back a couple days later?

Re: Cal coach
The coach may be back for the time being, but the damage has been done. Word on the street is Cal is already looking for a replacement for next year. Someone who will not leave no matter how bad it gets. I heard this guy is at the top of the short list:

He's already wearing the right colors.
