Team Yellow and Red Cards Empty Team Yellow and Red Cards

Post by UPSoccerFanatic Wed Sep 16, 2009 4:57 pm

Ok you soccer rules experts:

What is a yellow or red card issued to "Team"? What is the penalty if a team gets one?

I've seen (on Matchtracker) a couple of these awarded this year and have no idea what they mean. Question

Well, the "team Yellow" designation isn't in the NCAA rules, but since team officials aren't on a roster, it could be for a caution or ejection of one of them. Unlike FIFA rules, a ref is supposed to show a card to a coach or team official. In international play, they are merely sent off or verbally cautioned. It could also be for some procedural error. The ref has the power to suspend a game if a team is late to the field, but can only caution the host institution to control or remove spectators, or some such violation. NCAA refs have no power to suspend games for such infractions.

All mention of carding in the rule book is in reference to a specific player or team official.

Don't know for sure, but under NCAA rules the coach can be shown a card (in the FIFA Laws, only players or substitutes can be cautioned or sent off). I remember the Texas coach got a red for his tirade after their first round playoff game last year. Maybe it's filed under "team" on gametracker.

More than likely, the way the matchtracker program is set up I doubt the coaches are listed as possibilities to apply cards so they have to do a blank, aka TEAM. That's the most logical reason I could see for it.

Or the person inputing the card was unclear who the card was attributed to on the field, and displayed it as being toward the team instead.

When Petruchelli got his red card (later rescinded) after the Texas - WSU playoff game last year, it went into the box score as "TEAM"

[90:00] Red card on UT TEAM. "

So , non-player red and yellow cards seems right.

So basically its a matchtracker limitation, not necessarily a rule based thing. Got it.
