Update on recruits
So recently, the profiles of John Baily and Ryan Nichols have been updated on ESPN. I'm happy to report that both moved up in terms of quality as Nichols, who was previously un-scored received a score of 79, and Baily moved from the mid-70's to an even 80. Kieth Shamburger has not been updated since June, my guess is that he'll hold steady about there, he may move up a few points for a while.
here is what it says about them:
Shamburger has range that extends out to the 3-point line and will hit daggers from beyond the arc, especially in transition. He has most of his success when he plays off the ball and spots up on the wing. When he has the ball and plays as a point guard, he tends to take tough shots and looks for his own offense before involving others first. He tends to over-dribble when he tries to initiate the offense, which typically results in forced shots. He also needs to work on his ball-handling skills, which will make him a better, more efficient player off the dribble. He does a decent job of playing pressure defense.
September, 2009: Bailey, who is headed to the WCC (Portland) after his senior season, has improved nicely each and every year. He has added muscle to his wiry frame and as a result he is more productive at both ends in the paint area. He plays hard on every possession and with purpose in mind. He is a fundamentally sound face-up 4-man that can hit the mid-range jump shot with consistency or take it to the basket. He doesn't possess great bounce, but he is fairly quick off his feet and has an abundance of savvy to his credit. His back to the basket game will continue to improve with added strength and he can use either hand while finishing in the paint area. Overall, Bailey should have a fine career in the Pilot program due to his knowledge of the game and skill.
October, 2007: Bailey emerged after this event (2007 Fullcourt Press All Frosh/Soph Camp) as one of the more promising fours in the Western Class of 2010. He has a solid frame with long arms and a nice set of shoulders. He is a good athlete who is fairly quick off his feet, especially in traffic. What sets Bailey apart from most of his classmates are his fundamentals and footwork in the post. He has a solid drop-step move and utilizes the pump fake as well as any young big. Bailey has a nice touch out to the stripe, and his shot is smooth in its delivery. He competes hard at both ends and was one of the few players who weren't intimidated by Jeremy Tyler. As Bailey continues to grow into his body and matures as a player, he will at least be playing at the mid-major level.
August, 2009: Nicholas is the type of recruit coaches win with. He gives an honest effort each and every time and isn't intimidated by anybody. He has a thick frame that is perfect for banging underneath. Despite not having great lift, he understands how to use his frame to block out opponents that are more athletic. In addition, he has savvy when operating in the paint area. His footwork is solid and he can use either hand while finishing-not too mention he can knock down the jump shot at the elbow. Nicholas, overall, should be a solid pick up for Portland.

Great reviews for those three. They should be a solid core for that class. I think its spelled Nicholas, at least thats what their website had it as. Do you have a link for those reports?

Re: Update on recruits
As superficial as it is, I love having recruits that are actually on the radar.

Re: Update on recruits
Yes,
I can kinda use my "wild" imagination and be like a fan from the North. Pew's many asst coaches, Nicholas slides into Kramers spot fulltime his soph year, Bailey slides into Lukes spot the same year. Sham provide's the O that the Pilot's miss from Jahred Stohl and graduated seniors from 2011.
That leaves a gap of one year where Luke,Kramer, and Stohl,BJ, Jasonn,Eric, Nem. are going to have to Produce bigtime on the OFFENSIVE SIDE OF THE BALL to give the freshman time to develop like the Pilot PG Eric was doing toward the end of the year last year. Then Rev can start Reloading .....KABOOM,CLICK,KABOOM as opposed to rebuilding (12-19 , 14-17 records in between) each year. As the road to happy destiny continues for Rev and the Pilot men's basketball team..... well in a perfect Pilot BB fan world this would happen.

Re: Update on recruits
Looks like Stephen Holt has committed to the Gaels. I always hate to see the local guys leave. Oh well.

Re: Update on recruits
Yeah, especially hurts to lose him to another WCC school, but I guess you can't really begrudge a guy for wanting to go somewhere else for college.
I guess the boys will just have to make sure he has 4 years of spoiled homecomings in Chiles, eh?

So with 3 now commitments, How many scholarships are still left to fill for the 2010-2011 season? And what positions will Rev be looking to fill?

Re: Update on recruits
Campbell,Ravio,Smuelders,Ethan, and Ito will all be graduating. By my count that's 5 seniors,I think Rev might use all five. Because in 2011-2012 he will have 4 men graduating Luke, Jasonn, Kramer, and Stohl. Remember, they granted BJ another year of elgibility from his medical injuries in 2007-2008
.
Two more openings, on Rev's twitter he mentioned something about firming up some recruiting. This Nov. will be interesting as we know John Bailey,Nicholas, and Shamburger sign on the dotted line. Who will the other two recruit's be,they may give it walk'on Colorado Cody ,only the shadow knows, and Rev. an Staff. I know for a fact the players have no idea until the kid signs or shows up on campus. They do remember who they "hosted" though so I'm sure they can narrow Rev. and the staffs selection down somewhat.
Personally I like it that way, then the fan's ,alumni, etc... can be somewhat "surprised". That farm school to the North skates on thin Ice , by soliciting recruits through their board. Eventually, that behavior comes back to bite you in the arss. An example would be the top 100 kid "decomitting" from Wisconsin because of comments made about him on the Wisconsin board.

Re: Update on recruits
When the writer/scout says that Bailey does not have "great bounce," what does he/she mean? First step? Dribbling ability? It sounds like a vague description to me...
I can't wait to score more recruits with 85-90+ scores. Hopefully, this class is just the beginning of something special...

I am really happy about this. I love the athleticism that BJ offers when he is on the court. I think that his previous athletic experience helps him in this area (he did Triple Jump, right?). I would love to see more athletic players like BJ over the course of the next few recruiting classes.
Also, Mesa, what other types of injuries are there besides medical?

Ease up on Mesa. He's just missing a little punctuation. if he had written medical/injury he would have been fine.
Kids have redshirted for all sorts of medical conditions that can't be classified as injury, like appendicitis, mono, corrective surgery, etc.

H
You have to remember most of my writing is as I "run" out the door to work or weekend events. In addition, I am not a graduate of UP. Just a "intense" BB fan.
From personally watching Bailey I would say he doesnt get off the ground as quick as the three current bigs. But, his offensive game is way ahead of Kramers when he came out of HS even though he still has another year to improve. I look at him as a 10-15 foot jumpshooter and good back to basket player.(Maybe not as good as Robin but possibly better than Luke offensively when he reachs maturity.)He already finishes well with both hands.
It's my belief that Nicholas from Gonzaga Prep will take up the "dirty work" and rebounding when Luke,Kramer, and Jasonn gone. I look at him as sort of a kid who has the skill's and determination to develop into a Pendo clone. I'm sure happy the Zags could not convince him to walk on and he is coming to UP. I think Revs reputation with big men had much to do with his decision. Would you want to learn from one of the best big men coach's on the West Coast? Or walkon and sit on the bench, maybe never getting to play!!!

Well Shipshad11,technically I think you could ask the coaching staff, career counselors, etc at UP and I believe Hegarty had a pre'existing mental condition which was aggravated by his homesickness, etc. Just something for you folks who like to seperate mentaldisorders from physical disorders so quickly to think about. A mental disorder is a physical condition so the next time you want to "make fun" of that strange relative (OK not funny jokes about Mesa here, he's being serious) maybe you ought to stop and consider they have the same disability as a person with diabetes, paralasis, etc and maybe one should not treat them any different.
That's why I am glad people didn't get on Hegarty when he transfered back home after exibiting "odd" behavior, Back and forth to home. He had already spent a year away from home at Prep school so I think more of his deal will alway's be a mystery.
Mesa promises to close the book on that one, and hang up his DR MESA license.

Re: Update on recruits
Regarding BJ's redshirt... it's definitely official now. Last year, all throughout the season they kept referring to him as a sophomore (on the official roster, team introductions, etc), which led many of us to believe that he actually hadn't redshirted his freshman year.
But now the official roster clearly lists him as a sophomore while his classmates are all listed as juniors. So we can expect to see BJ around for two more seasons after this one. Awesome! No one improved more as the season went on than BJ did.
