Re: Soooo....Blount?
From the "O"
beautiful.
Kelly has refused to answer further questions about Blount but has referred to a "plan'' that evidently outlined steps Blount could take to be reinstated.
A reinstatement would be a reversal of the stance taken by Kelly and athletic director Mike Bellotti at a news conference on Sept. 4 to announce the suspension along with a statement from university president Richard Lariviere supporting "the decision made by coach Chip Kelly.''
"LeGarrette Blount will still be on our team,'' Kelly said at the news conference. "LeGarrette Blount will just not play for us on Saturdays.''
Oregon's next game that does not fall on a Saturday is the Civil War on Dec. 3. Of the possible bowl games, only the Emerald Bowl falls on a Saturday (Dec. 26).
beautiful.

I hope the Ducks are in the salty nuts bowl just so he can't play...

Re: Soooo....Blount?
I hope they win out and make it to the Rose Bowl and LaGarrette Blount plays. Then he can rush for -12 yards in a 49-7 loss to Ohio State and during the post-game handshake he can sucker punch Terelle Pryor. That would be WAY more entertaining than him not playing in the Emerald Nuts Bowl presented by Byron Hout.

Totally unrealistic.
I mean, THE Ohio State winning a BCS bowl? Really?

Re: Soooo....Blount?
He must complete a plan as set forth by the coaching staff (whatever that is) and then the earliest he can come back is the Stanford game. As long as they are going to have all the bad press of reinstating him, why aren't they letting him come back a week earlier for USC?
I have mixed feeling about the season long suspension, but so long as that was the decision it seems it should have been kept.

Yeah, the waffling on the part of the coaching staff is what gets me.... You gotta wonder what changed in the last 3 weeks to go from such a hard line stance to this...

Yeah... I remember seeing that stuff in the initial broadcast, but honestly people say some nasty things you just need to ignore and run to the locker room. And it isn't like Blount had a history of immaculate behavior before that... (or should I say behaviour??)

Exactly, that is precisely why it would be so great.

What changed? Well, he didn't bail out of Eugene within 5 days of being suspended for the year, like most folks thought he would. He continued to fulfill responsibilities to the team that most senior athletes would consider "beneath" them. His behavior convinced Kelly to rethink what would be best for the man.
I see this as a major downside risk for Kelly, with limited upside. The issue had gone away, and this resurrects the whole negative publicity scene. Blount may still never get on the field if he doesn't meet the conditions set, which means this was all for nothing. Even if Blount does get reinstated, he probably won't be the primary running back. The four other backs are doing well, with two straight 100 yard games for James. If James continues to play well, why would the coach disrupt that rhythm by changing the line-up. Blount will be out of game shape, having been off the field for 8 weeks. All that leads me to take Kelly at his word that he is doing this for Blount, not for the football team.
Haters can say whatever, and this could blow up if Blount turns out to be unable to change his behavior, but I am OK with it.

Even though college players are unpaid kids, no player is indispensible. I don't see any upside for Kelly; Oregon just won a big game without Blount. He's basically just sending a message that if you're good enough you can break the rules. Neuheisel sent that same message at UW during his era and that's how players like Jeremy Stevens were created. Trust me, you don't want to go there.

Because of Chip Kelly's willingness to give Blount a second chance, he will now be able to do great things in his life. I think I am going to nominate Blount for the Nobel Peace Price in anticipation of all the good work he will do.

Blount will assuredly solve the gas crisis, stop youth violence and when he's all done sit down and write sonnets as eloquent as his apology letters....
