Baseball Field Empty Baseball Field

Post by MaizeBluePurple Wed Sep 26, 2007 11:47 am

Does anyone know what all is planned for the baseball field? It looks like they have torn up the infield. Are they only going to work on the infield, or are they going to work on the outfield also? I remember seeing something about it a while ago, but I cannot find the info now.

Baseball Field Empty Hmmm

I know the long term plan is to move the baseball stadium down to the new lower campus... but that is a while off.

Are they replacing the infield with an artificial surface?

Sounds like they are just redoing the infield... no artificial turf or anything like that.

Also, I meant to post this a long time ago but forgot... taken from the Portland Tribune a few weeks ago:

The University of Portland is putting together a six-team baseball tournament at PGE Park that first will be held in 2009. UP coach Chris Sperry hopes it will become an annual event. Hawaii has committed. University of Oregon has been invited. Oregon State was also invited but won’t be able to play because of finals.

The Pilots also will move one of their two home games against the Beavers to PGE Park next March.

How cool is this? Not only will we be hosting a tournament at PGE Park that will definitely help drum up some interest and attention to the program, but also we will be playing the Beavers there next season too! Very cool, and great for the program.

... will the Widmer Beer Garden along the first base line be open for the games?! drunken

This is very cool news, especially the tournament. This will certainly drum up interest

Found this on The Beacon's website:

http://media.www.the-beacon.net/media/storage/paper1193/news/2007/09/27/Sports/Leveling.The.Playing.Field-2997455.shtml

Explains wha'ts going on to the baseball field.

Actually, The Beacon is a good source to find articles about UP sports. The quality isn't always great (obviously... they let me write for it), but it definitely can be a good way to see info you won't see elsewhere.

Here's the direct link:

www.the-beacon.net

Problem is that it isn't regulalry updated... annoying!
