Brew Festivals Empty Brew Festivals

Post by DaTruRochin Mon Jul 13, 2009 5:49 pm

Because having an active beer thread is paramount, thought I'd give a shoutout to the next 2 weekends:

This weekend: Portland International Brew Festival Underrated brew festival, and my personal favorite. Nestled in the N. Park Blocks (8th and Everett) under the shade, its a much more laid back vibe and a lot of beers from all over the globe (and some local ones too). I won't be able to make it this year (I seriously considered ditching my center pitch tix to the Chelsea game in Seattle to make it to the festival), but this gets the DTR full seal of approval.

Next weekend: Oregon Brewer's Festival Big crowds, big beer, fun and delicious. Last year they had both Pliny the Elder and Hop Czar and ton of other brews, lots of fun BUT if it's anything like last year wear shoes you don't mind getting dirty the trampled riverfront gets dry as hell and it gets dusty. Its a wild time, and I recommend getting there early to beat the big crowds and then sitting back and watching the madness (and obligitory random waves of yelling and raising your cup)

Do you think my family would mind if I skipped the reunion and went to the N. Park Blocks instead? I know which one I would pick... Rolling Eyes

The $55 admission at first took me aback... but then I read the "unlimited samples" clause and started salivating a bit...

The crappy part is that every session is super crowded. I stopped going years ago. The selection is quite nice.
I do miss the Portland festivals. They really know how to do it right, and provide a diverse sampling of interesting beers.

You can miss that JV football game for a brew festival... you could probably even hawk the tickets and pay for the entire trip!

Heh, over on the Timbers board people have been talking for months about July 23-25: a match on Thursday (cheap beer night), Brew Fest on Friday, and another match, the exhibition with Burnley, on Saturday.

Lots of lost productivity in workplaces across the Portland metro area that Monday, I'll wager...

Worst beer festival: Colorado Brewers Festival. Everyone from CO brings their flagship beer and nothing interesting. No thank you, I've had Fat Tire. The crowd is mostly dudes walking around shirtless, displaying either beer guts, douchy tattoos, or both. At the close of the festival, two of these guys will always be in a fight in the middle of the street. Lame.

I just found a brew fest inSteven's Point (Terry Porter anyone?) on Aug 15 called Brews, Brats and Bands 2009. I was planning on drivng through SP that day...now I am going to stop!!

Does Oktoberfest count as a brew festival?? If so, apparently La Crosse has a pretty bad ass one. That starts the weekend after Racine and runs all week long.

Then October 17 I will be heading to the waterpark capital of the United States. That is the day of Wisconsin Dells on Tap!! If anyaone wants to join me I will probably be staying at one of the many resorts that doubles as an indoor water park. I would love to go to Noah's Ark...but I have a feeling it will be closed for the season. Seriously though, what could be better than capping off a brew festival with an evening at a water park?? Capping it off with another brew fest?

Rochin54, If you are available this weekend, the Indiana brew festival is this Saturday in Indianapolis.

I'm seeing something called Bones and Brew in Portland on August 1-2. Anyone know about that??

I'm finding a ton of brew festivals within a day's driving distance...this retirement thing might be kind of nice!

As a special bonus, that happens to fall on International Talk Like a Pirate Day.

The thought of 500 people drinking beer, wearing eye patches, and talking like pirates just boggles....
