The demo work began mid-June and is expected to be completed by the end of July. Only the hulk of the former power plant remains standing but it should be down by month's end. All the other buildings, above-ground storage tanks, and the 110-foot tall smokestack are gone. All useable materials from the site have been recycled including all the concrete which will be crushed and stockpiled for use as fill for the power plant basement and future road bed materials.

Once the demo contractor finishes all the site grading, stockpiling, etc. and generally spruces the site up the real clean-up work will begin. Further investigation of the sub-surface areas that are accessible now that the builidings have been razed will be the first of many steps over the next 2 years in UP's efforts to reclaim this land for beneficial redevelopment.
