NCAA mascots

Post by PurpleGeezer on Wed Apr 22, 2009 6:56 pm

the North Dakota Fighting Sioux got approval from tone of the two Sioux tribes to use the Mascot

http://www.ncaa.org/wps/ncaa?ContentID=48995

The Spirit Lake tribe voted today to back the use of the name. North Dakota has until 2010 to get the backing of the Standing Rock Tribe, or come up with a new Mascot by 2011.

It makes you wonder what the deadline is for some of the other tribes. Have the Seminole settled? How about William and Mary's undisclosed Tribe? And has a vote been taken yet by the Fighting Irish?

Just asking....

The NCAA does NOT recognize a donnybrook as an official vote.

FSU was one of the first schools to be allowed to keep the mascot. The Tribe, at least those in Florida, have a good relation with the school, according to wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Native_American_mascot_controversy#Florida_State_Seminoles
(not a surprise that there are some in the tribe that do not like it)
