I'm Back! Empty I'm Back!

Post by Stonehouse Tue Mar 10, 2009 4:22 pm

I'll post more later, but just wanted to give a shout out to all the Portland people that made it to Vegas. There was an amazing showing from the class of 2005 (hell yes original Purple Priders!) and it was great to see all the faithful and loyal alums rocking it as well. Hopefully next year some more students will come, but you've got to give props to the ones that did make it. And special thanks to the alumni office... all the events were terrific and I thought they did a great job of getting what Pilots where there together.

I won't dwell too much on the SMC game (I was bummed out enough Sunday night and yesterday) other than to say this... prior to last night's awful game against Gonzaga (GU is looking incredibly good right now, by the way), Saint Mary's with Patty Mills playing a full game was 18-1 and a Top 20 team. Nothing to hang our heads about.

And we could have beaten them had TJ not gotten into foul trouble and had the refs just called it a bit more evenly in the second half (FT differential was 30 to 8, and only six of SMC's came at the end of the game). Not to say we played particularly well (we didn't), but that game would have been a much different story with TJ playing 30-35 minutes instead of 14. (He scored 12 points in those 14 minutes... a perfect 4-4 from behind the arc.)

So yeah... bummer we lost, but cheers to a terrific season and maybe we'll even get a few more games in somewhere before it's over.

GOOOOOOOOO PILOTS!!!

I definitely agree that the game was nothing to be disappointed by. Rev put the team on the map, and we have so many returning players that next year could just be outstanding. We won't catch anybody by surprise anymore, but, we won't need to. Post season tourney play would be nice this year...but, if not we can lick our chops for that early season tourney next year with Butler and UCLA. That will be sweet.

It saddens me I couldn't be there for the co-founder reunion... If it is in Vegas next year, me and my beautiful Coky jersey will most definitely be there... Haha but we might have to get a few new original P Pride shirts printed up... Maybe if we get on it we can get a bunch ahead of time for next season/tourney for PN members too for the "vintage" P-Pride look :-P

Mine somehow shrunk significantly, and in no way does that mean I've just gotten bigger.... Mad

Oh and next year, I'm bringing golf balls... Beware Pilot Nut... Beware...

Shipstad11: news about the 76 Classic trickled out a few months ago. Talk about an opportunity to make a mark - the competition will be very stiff indeed. It used to be called the Anahim Classic... all the games are on ESPN over Christmas time and played right next to Disneyland. Link to the full release is below, but here's the important stuff:

ESPN Regional Television, Inc., a subsidiary of ESPN, announced today the field for the third annual 76 Classic. The 12-game, bracketed collegiate basketball tournament features eight schools. The games in 2009 will be played Thanksgiving weekend at the Anaheim Convention Center adjacent to Disneyland on Nov. 26, 27 and 29. Tournament pairings and game times will be announced at a later date.

The 76 Classic field for 2009 includes eight teams from eight conferences: UCLA (Pac-10), Texas A&M (Big 12), West Virginia (BIG EAST) Long Beach State (Big West), Clemson (ACC), Butler (Horizon), Minnesota (Big Ten) and Portland (West Coast).

That sounds GREAT!!!!

That, coupled with a strong non-conference start in the fall, could give us great momentum going into conference play and perhaps set us up well to compete nationally.

Hey, I'M coming next year, and I'm bringing some more fellow alums with me. My parents were there and they had a blast, so they've convinced me to come next year. If it's there next year, I've corralled a few alums of the basketball programs to come with me. We'll throw down.
