Las Vegas

Post by mattywizz on Mon Mar 02, 2009 7:15 am

Las Vegas is listed as one of the twenty places to be this week according to Weekly Watch. Not really that exciting, pretty much says they are looking forward to a third matchup between Gonzaga and St. Mary's, especially if Patty Mills is available.

Hopefully the Pilots can spoil their hopes.

By the way, I just tied you in total posts Rochin54. You may get to go to Vegas, but I am going to stay home and pull away from you in post count!

Maybe I'm just being optomistic this morning, but I like our match-ups with the winner of USF/Pepp (although, Lowhorn can be scary) and then St. Mary's. I feel like we can beat all of those teams on a neutral court, including SMC. It should be a very fun trip to Vegas. I'm a bit dissappointed that I won't catch the friday games, but I'll be able to see all the Pilot games.

I really, really, really want a third shot at Gonzaga. Did I also mention that would mean a 20 win season?

Make it happen, guys.

Our matchups are as favorable as we could make them... (unless of course we had the #2 seed... but anyway...).

This weekend should be a blast... in case anyone didn't hear, the UP Alumni Office will be hosting pre-game socials 2 hours before each UP men's or women's game, at Brendan's Irish Pub, inside the Orleans Casino... with hosted snacks and no-host bar. Unfortunately, since the men have the late games, that means it interfere's with the early men's game... I love watching all the games, so I have some decisions to make. tongue

I had the same thought Nut. I may do a half and half thing, where I go to the pregame function for a bit, then head to the first game. I don't know, still mulling this one over.

I forgot about the possibility of using the WCC tourney to get to 20 wins. That would be sweet indeed. Here's to hoping that Rev gets us back to our bread and butter in the tourney. Here are my keys to success:

1) We need to have better shooting than 52% at the free throw line...much better than we did in the SCU game.
2) We need to find our three point shot again. We can't live by the three and die by the three. At the same time, it was mentioned that going into the SCU game we had the third best 3-point percentage in the nation at 42%. On a good night, that's our forte. TJ and Stohl need to be strokin' it for us to give the best teams problems.
3) When the team is shooting cold, Raivio needs to be able to carry the team again. I haven't noticed his efficiency (EFF) rating being as high in recent games. In the early parts of the season and in some of our best wins against UW and SMC, he was pretty unstoppable...and I felt like Rev could have possibly given him the green light to score even more.
4) TJ absolutely cannot foul out. In the second matchup with SMC, the game took a turn when he left the game and we went to our subs. Having him foul out of the SCU game was not helpful either.
5) Our big men need to at least hold their own. If Smeulders plays like he did earlier in the season for a 15-20 point performance that would be great. Kramer and Ethan need to keep providing the intangibles. If we want a upset in the semis or finals, we might have to have Big John come into his own one year early.

As I continue to write this, I'm getting excited because I'm realizing that there are just a lot of formulas that can lead to a win with this team. There has to be a big improvement from our play in the past two games though.

I'm going to do whatever the "crew" from PN decides. I'm flexible,as I'm dumping the rest of the family for whatever vice's they want to enjoy without Mesa in Sin City Laughing .

I'm doing my part. I'm checking into whether you can get Pliny in plastic bottles so Libbey won't get hurt with the emptys.
