Maybe I'll get one out of the fridge at the clubhouse and bring it to the tournament.

I'll have to relabel it "Saline solution - Medical use only" to get it on the plane.

After this game - I'll have to drink the supply at home.

Haha you should have been in the chat room... I think all of us are feeling your sentiments.

~They just came out flat.
~Stohl out of the game far too long, and nobody passed to him when he was.
~ TJ played his worst game this year...
~ Smeulders had a few spurts of brilliance, but we went away from him toward the end
~ Nik just seemed to be pressing too much

And really it was just sloppy sloppy sloppy and to top it off they played with zero heart. They just didn't play like the team we've seen this year. Rant

It's time for Rev to sit them down, re-focus, reocompose and re-commit to finishing strong, and leaving it all on the floor at the very least.

Note to Mesa... DON'T throw the empty bottle on the floor... WCC officials will give the home team a tech (They just did in the SCU game)..

But if you do find the need to do it... Wear a Zags shirt...

Wow, that defintiely did not look like a team that was fine tuning it's game for the tournament. The first half... I don't know where to begin. Raivio started out playing way too much one and one, and that seemed to set the tone for guys standing around watching someone else dribble, very, very poor floor spacing, very poor decisions and unforced turnovers. I can handle missing shots, because that eventually turns around. But I have just no explanation for that first half on the offensive end. Really, really horrible. They just looked so disorganized and unsure of themselves.

They came out much sharper in the 2nd half... more ball movement, better decisions, more moving without the ball. If they're over playing you, do what Smeulders did a few times - cut to the basket and make them pay for overplaying you. More aggressive defense as well. But then, we just didn't take advantage of many, many opportunites USD gave us by missing shot after shot, offensive boards, fast break opportunities.. What's so upsetting is that this game was there for th taking. USD is just not very impressive to me. If we had played half way decent in the first half (12 first half turnovers), it's a 'W'.

This is definitely not a 2nd place team - at least not the one that played tonight. Sorry to be so blunt.. but I think it's pretty accurate. 3rd place is about right..But if you had told me we'd be 9-4 in conference and 18-10 at this point at the beginning of the year, of course I would have ran with that.

Let's hope this was a bleep on the radar, and the Pilots can come out and play well on Saturday.

Oregonian recap...
http://www.oregonlive.com/pilots/index.ssf/2009/02/up_men.html

And yeah I managed to double post about the author's lack of research as to how the WCC tourney seeding works... I was THAT perturbed...

Oh and what's with the new guy? Apparently Jim Beseda didn't make this roadtrip...

Darn - that's a bit disappointing we didn't win that game. From the box score, it certainnly seems that turnovers played a big part in this loss. I'd like to see us hold our opponents to worse than 44% from the field, but that can be understandably difficult when playing on the road. But that's why road wins are tough, you've got to come out very focused and disciplined, and it looks like maybe we came out a little bit too loose. To me, last night's game is an example of an instance where you may not be clicking on all cylinders offensively (turnovers, TJ out of sybc on his shot, luke going 1-8, etc.), but you can win the game with your defense. We couldn't quite overcome those other things with our defense. but hey, on a positive note, it looks like we battled back and didn't just lay down.

Goldie--a pretty darn accurate evaluation of the game.

It's frustrating--with so much on the line (2md place, double bye, etc), we come out with less than a 100% effort. Credit, too, to USD's effort; they were playing a speed faster/higher than us most of the night.

TJ just couldnt get his game in order, which is bound to happen, and it was really the first time he has struggled all year... but we still should have been able to pick up the slack, and just couldn't... I think the only way we can get the #2 seed now is if LMU knocks off SMC Saturday (Granted, the Lions have been playing much better recently, but that's a tall order). Thanks to USF beating SCU last week, USD would win the tiebreaker over SCU... SMC's 2-0 record vs. USD would beat our 1-1, and so we get to play on Saturday.

Hitting my head agai

The good news is that as #3, we would play the winner of the #6/#7 game, which looks like will be #6 Pepp vs. #7 USF... I like that potential matchup better than possibly facing the #5 seed SCU (they would have to beat #8 LMU).

dang....that is indeed a bit frustrating. You do point to a bright spot in that our 6/7 draw would be a good match-up for us.

Nut - I wasn't so upset that we lost the game (although I REALLY wanted to win this one as we all did!), but it was more the way we played in the 1st half. It just did not look like a team that was playing well going into the tournament and we just had no semblance of a half court offense - and at this late stage... It was kind of like watching Notre Dame trying to run the football the past two years - completely ineffectual... Laughing
