Hmm, I was just reading today how Laika studios is laying off their sculptors and animators right now. Surely one of thos folks might be interested in coming up with something. The problem with the standard Mascot factories is they just redoo the same old faces for all the mascots.

Wow, I didn't know they killed him off. Can't say I'm sad to see him go.

I think we ought to have a PN poll about top design's and pass it on to University with our My 2 Cents . Live vote at WCC tourney with absentee voting over the computer at that time. No Stonehouse you don't get two vote's.

Since most mascots are inherently cheesy I think some sort of crusty old seafaring pilot is the best option... Which will confuse most media who think Pilots has something to do with airplanes

I guess if you had a seadog (which has been considered from what I understand) or something like that it could work, but to be honest that would be the same kind of mascot as UW and GU... The last thing the PNW needs is another mangy fleabag...

There are some problems with the Sea dog theme.

First off, I'll bet this brewery would be mystified about their rise in T-shirt sales

Then, of course, there's the fact that there already is a team calling itself the Portland sea dogs

Basically a Popeye-type mascot, a reinvention of Wally that wouldn't suck if it was done right.

I'm pretty sure the copyrights have expired on Popeye, especially the old one...

Although come to think of it if this popeye sailor had a dog on a leash that would be pretty damn funny....

Popeye would be pretty sweet... but surely someone still has rights to him? I'm not really sure how copyrights work for characters like that.

For me... it doesn't really have to do with being a river boat Pilot. It could be a dog, a fish, heck it could even be a lighthouse for all I care (like the Stanford Tree). What will really matter is 1) getting a good suit and 2) getting a professional to do it, at least at the beginning.

And I agree with Trish that it's important for the students to really want it and to take ownership of helping make the decision.

Or we could just go back to being the Cliffdwellers which would be awesome.
