And the Columbian weighs in from across the river. Naturally, they focussed on one of their own and made the piece about Nik.

Location: Lowry the tailor lived there when boys were boys. In his day he was fond of the gun. He always carried his powder loose in the tail pocket of his coat. He usually had in his mouth a short dudeen; but in an evil moment he put the dudeen, lighted, in the pocket among the powder. Mr. Lowry was an eccentric man.

I was looking for this article in the paper and was dismayed to find it on page 5 of the Sports Section. This is a travesty. Why the Oregonian would not feature this game on the front page of its Sports section is beyond perplexing. The way the Oregonian - and the rest of the local press, for that matter - treats local sports teams is disgusting. Why should the rest of the country respect Portland as a major sports town, when our own media fails to? Way to go, Oregonian!
I'm thinking about sending the above (sans emoticons) to the editor. What do you think?

I actually decided to e-mail the Sports Editor. This is what I sent:
To the Sports Editor:
I was looking an article on tonight's hugely important game between the Portland Pilots and the Gonzaga Bulldogs in today's (Thursday, February 5, 2009) paper and was dismayed to find it on page 5 of the Sports Section. This is a travesty. Why the Oregonian would not feature a preview of this game on the front page of its Sports section is beyond perplexing. The way the Oregonian - and the rest of the local press, for that matter - treats local sports teams is disgusting. Why should the rest of the country respect Portland as a major sports town when our own media can't be bothered to? Way to go, Oregonian!

As I'm sure you all saw, the game story did make the front of the Sports. It even bumped the Ducks to the middle.

With fewer people reading the dead tree version, article placement will become a thing of the past.

USF game media
Here's the Jim Beseda on the USF game. It looks like he has a little lovefest going on with Jared
Stohl gets creative to lift UP past USF
When I look at the box there were a couple of other reasons, too - TJ, for one
And is the rumor true that Reveno sold his soul to pick him up? If so- nice job, Rev.
The Tribunes take was that it was no big deal - we just went out and beat a team we were supossed to beat.
COLLEGE BASKETBALL: UP gets job done against weaker team
Think about that. When was the last season we were supposed to beat anybody?
I think sports writers aren't really sure what to write about us right now. They aren't any more used to us being where we are than we are...

Umm, just noticed that the Oregonian links to Pilot Nation on the left side towards the bottom of the page - very cool.
