Bummer.

Can't wait to see the box score... the free throw differential was killer, even when you take into account us fouling at the end.

And I don't really get how we couldn't take more advantage of a team with four six footers on the floor. Also... Stohl hits four threes in the first half, yet Ito plays most of the second half at shooting guard... I just don't get it.

That is kind of weird. Stohl was the leading scorer at the half. How was his defense though? I mean we were down 9, weren't we?

well, It looked to me like the advantage thing was part of why Ito played more in the second half.

He was better on defense.

Not to be cruel, but it reminded me of a Charles Barkley quote on Cutino Mobly.

"he was instant offense. At both ends of the floor, I might add."

Box score is posted... maybe I was wrong about Stohl/Ito... Jared played 31 minutes. Campbell played 33, so I guess Ito and Stohl were on the floor more together than Campbell and Ito, which is the way it should be. My bad, my bad.

http://www.portlandpilots.com/documents/2008/12/16/pormbb09.htm?id=2696

ANYWAY, as expected... the free throw differential was the big decider.

5-8 for us, 20-26 for them. And they only had maybe 6 or 8 late in the game. Hate to get homered on the road like that... I don't think we ever got into the double-bonus in the second half.

HI Pilot Fans, I'm baaaackkk!

No I wasn't in jail, being held hostage or anything else like that. I just could not get back on the site due to my technical difficulties. I'm so addicted to you guys and this site I went out and bought a new Toshiba Laptop thinking my HP was broke. I feel like so good to be back.

The loss at UNC (Well at least it was to the #1 team in the country, yeah right) was painfull to watch but I'm not going to dwell on it . My small fraction of Pilot Nation is in already in my imaginary plane headed to Eugene. Beat those Quack,Quack's! I figure ya gotta lose one to a weak team in Pre-Season.After that beatdown from the Mormon's (BYU) the team looked worn down in that HIGH ALTITUDE. I will have to say I almost pulled the hair out of the left side of my head when that guy hit two three's in a row on Ravio and Nik decided to hammer him on the second one for a four pt. play. But he's are best all-around player and does so much for the team he gets a pass on boneheaded play's that happen ocassionally. Kramers miss on the gimme was not easy to see either.F/T discrepency was the bad stat, second game in a row Evil or Very Mad

Great to be back, thought Rob's Jacket, Sci-Fi,or PilotNut had banned me there for a while (Ok,so I'm a little paronoid Rolling Eyes ).

Geezer although I do not agree with you on all your post's you made my day with that Charles Barkely quote. I [b]I NOMINATE THAT QUOTE WHEN REFERRING TO STOHL-ITO SUB FOR THE HALL OF FAME/QUOTE POST OF THE YEAR. I couldn't stop laughing when thinking about that quote and Stohl and UNC player trading 3's in the first half. Keep those precious quotes a commin, I had a tough day at work dealing with the 5 women whom I work closely with but you gave me such a great belly laugh it's all better now.

Great to be on full board again, your friend from the Desert jocolor ,

A few reasons they were down by 9 at half. Stohl hits 2 tres in a row and TJ passes him up wide open on the wing to force up a shot, UC goes and Kingman hits it. When a guys on fire you feed him the ball.

10 seconds on the shot clock and TJ gives the ball to ??Hannibal at the top of the Key?? Not exactly the player or position for that player to get the ball with good pressure and time winding down.

A screen set for Robin and he's wide open under the basket, no pass.

I don't know what game you guys were watching but the feed on my screen says Stohl was playing ok defense.

I still think they are too slow bringing up the ball, I only remember a couple fastbreaks.

Yeah I kinda wish we did'nt have Campbell on the team,we should probably put Ravio and Smeulders on the Bench too. That way we could let Stohl play the point and pass, create, and shoot for 40 or 50 a game. I'm sure we would be a real good team if the Pilots ran the offense through him.

Stohl's a role player who will hit the pine's again and come in for his shooting ability when Ethan is healthy again. He is a MAJOR liability to the Pilots on Defense, and has created his own shot less than 5 times in his career. He is a strickly touch and shoot who would be overwhelmed at mid-major level IF NOT FOR THE SCREENS REV DESIGNS FOR HIM. Or if he's wide open on Fast-Breaks because another Pilot created his opportunity,.

Doesn't mean I don't like him,he's just very limited athletically at this level. He's a specialist strickly in for shooting. I am not real fond of the 2nd pt guard, but he's all we have at this time to give Campbell a breather. Can you tell I'm still P@ssed at Eric for taking only 2 shot's in the last 3 games of last year. He's improved soo, soo, much but will Never be a defensive player at this level because of his lack of quickness, lateral movement, small thin stature, etc. I just had to point out Stohl's weakness's because hammerin on TJ, Jasonn or others is not what I think was wrong with the game. F/T differential, altitude and many other factors contributed to the loss IMHO.

Not to be too negative in my post there was a great aspect of the game last night. The Big Sky network 'FREE" coverage of the game.

I always enjoy your comments, many of which are more insightful then mine. I know I was soo mad after the game that the Barkley joke was the highlight of my bb night. Not an insult to what "magic" shooting touch Eric Stohl has provided Portland Pilot Basketball cheers .

Luke provided a spark and calmness not exhibited by Jasonn last night.Thats probably why Jasonn did'nt play in the 2nd half when Kramer was in foul trouble.Hopefully Luke will be able to last more minutes having come off that long layoff this summer because of his knee. It would be Ideal to see Luke,Robin, and Kramer splitting those minutes and Jasonn only needed when 2 of those 3 got into foul trouble.

PS-Well guys I broke my golden rule and pretty much "tore up" Stohl and did'nt stick to what he did correct last night Rolling Eyes .

I wasn't saying that we run the offense through stohl, only he was on fire and anyone with anykind of knowledge or has played will find that guy wheter he is Robin or whoever.

Stohl wasn't guarding Kingman when he was nailing those 3's, so tell me how bad did his man burn him? Don't dog the kid cause of his lack of Physical abilities. I've been on this site a few times and all I see is negative about his defense. I didn't see his man light him up. He had a few steals.
Granted Ito and Porter may be more quicker but he was holding up okay. Everyone is going to get burned at some point in their career. As for creating his own shots, he has the ability not the confidence.

I like what TJ brings, I was pointing out why they were down 9, not because of Stohl's defense. I love the potential of Hannibal, but with the clock winding down and him at the top of the key that was clearly the wrong choice.

I suppose Rev designed that slow break for Stohl with the assist to Nik?! That definitely was ugly. I'm glad the rest of the Pilots decided to walk down the court to make Stohl look so good.

As for only creating only five shots in his career, obviously you haven't seen many games. I've only been to and seen a small number and know you are way out in the desert.
What did you think of that play Coach Mesa?

I didn't hammer on anybody on my post.

Didn't mean to be insultive, but of all Pilots Stohl is my favorite. I try not to post when I see negative stuff but I tend to notice that there were a few negative posts I didn't agree with when you decided to rip him a new one. I don't think he deserved that and I wouldn't want him or any other athlete to see something like that about themselves. I thought it was totally out of line. These kids work hard to get where they are at. It is the coach's job to figure out how to get a shooter open...look at Duke with Reddick, they set double screens and screens for the screeners. It's not one on five ball but a team sport.
My point was, and was confirmed in the UNC write up, Kingman was hot and they made a point to feed him the ball during the streak. Stohl was passed up wide open while TJ was 1 on 3 at the foul line. I didn't insinuate that Stohl was the savior or needs the ball all the time.

I am not able to see many games and am dependant on the feeds, but have been to a few games/ nor am I a alum. I just like to watch smart basketball and the Pilots are on the right track. All have improved and look much better than last year. I can't wait for Ethan to come back as he is an essential part of the team...even if Stohl's time gets cut and sent to the pine. Whatever it takes for a win.

The guys(gals) on here have been helpful on information of game feeds, which I am appreciative for....and other info on teams and I enjoy checking out what is said even if I don't post very often.

I agree that our opinions differ on this subject and apologize for hurting your feelings. We can kiss and make up at the one or two games I will be privy to attend!

Thanks for the reply. After I posted I erased it because I figured I was just going to add fuel to the fire with my big mouth. It's great that were so passionate about Pilot Basketball. As I mentioned in my other now non-existant post no hard feelings, and I again add I appreciate your message post's.

Don't worry Stohl won't get sent to the pine. Maybe for the first two or three minutes but after that he will be instant O off the bench( which Portland sorely needs)
. I was just shooting off my mouth about his improving defense being awful. Although it is slightly less than Ito. Stohl brings so much to the offense that I should have kept my mouth shut.

What do you think about the Oregon game? I think we have an excellent chance!!! They are very young, and seem like they have been inconsistent this year.

Your new "friend" , I think Rolling Eyes ,

I think there's more than just a chance.

If the Ducks shoot like they did against USD the Pilots WILL pull the upset and UO will go 0-3 against the WCC. The Rose Garden has a board with the percentages, turnovers, and other stats that updates in real time. At one point in the second half I looked up at it and the Ducks were shooting 25%. I kid you not. Shocked

P.S.--I like seeing people get fired up for Pilot basketball. And sometimes we need an enforcer like you. Wink

You mean a quick draw, feel bad later message poster bom .

But, as long as anyone is a Pilot or WCC fan their OK in my "distorted" view of the world. their OK....well anyone as long as their not a "crazy" bandwagon fan of that certain team to the north.Where were they before 10 years ago?lol. How about the "up" years for the Pilot's?Where was all their cheer then? I have to say I enjoyed Few getting outcoached by the Arizona coach. Good recruiter, lousy bench coach. Remind's me of that coach at Washington. On a positive note I am somewhat impressed with the little black/brown haired asst. there. He should be the Head Coach and the little red head ought to be in charge of recruiting.

Sorry I brought them up, their so easy to admire though.lol. Unfortunately, down here I get "tortured" with way too many of their games on TV.I think the Pilots will have a great chance this year at home against them. Now up there is a different story,we will be lucky to stay within 20 most likely.

Yeah, we've got a shot at the upset of Oregon and taking on Gonzaga at home. We really haven't been playing to our potential the last few games though. Any news on the return of Ethan? We need him badly or I think the losing is going to continue in the short term... I'm a little concerned about us dipping to or below .500 before the WCC play starts...

And whats the deal with John H. ? Is he still a part of the team??
