The University confirmed the LOI for Sarah Griffin and and Sarah Kliewer from Spokane.

and Oregonlive added this:

Unlike many of Oregon's best players as of late, Jesuit senior Sarah Griffin has decided to stay home and play for the University of Portland Pilots starting in the fall of 2009. Griffin is a nominee for the McDonald's All-American Game.

Probably only a few PN readers saw Sarah Griffin play at UP.   A graduate of Jesuit, Sarah played four games for the Pilots her freshman year, and never played again due to a back injury.  Many of us saw Sarah working in the SID office, marketing the women’s basketball program, and doing radio and video play-by-play of women’s games.

But Sarah, who graduated from UP in early May, must have gained a lot of knowledge from Coach Sollars and his staff, as she is now the Sunset High School Girls Basketball Head Coach!

Not only is Sarah the varsity head coach, she is responsible for the entire girls basketball program.  She must tackle fundraising at a budget-strapped school, oversee youth teams, address lagging participation and fill a number of coaching vacancies.

Sarah is taking over a program in disarray, and a varsity that is 2-28 over the last three years of Metro League play…..now her initial goal is to “raise the standards and attitudes” of what is now called Sunset Women’s Basketball.

Congratulations and good luck, Sarah.
