Just watched a really nice interview with Spoelstra on the Blazers pre-game show. Wow, he is amazingly well-spoken! There also was an article about him on OregonLive today:

http://blog.oregonlive.com/behindblazersbeat/2008/11/hard_work_takes_erik_spoelstra.html

For those who don't know... Spoelstra, now the coach of the Miami Heat, played for UP in the late 80's-early 90's... is definitely one of the better Pilot PGs of all-time. He was an All-WCC performer and is ranked third all-time in assists.

Great to see a former Pilot doing well!

Spoelstra has got a tough job. Wade is in good shape this year, but, that team is rebuilding. Roy will come around...

Spolestra has one of the toughest jobs in the league right now... That team's frontcourt is absolutely wretched... Dwayne Wade is still working back into the system, Sean Marion is hurt, Beasley doesn't know how to play D to save his life and their best "traditional" post is Udonis Haslem... The fact that he has them at 7-8 is incredible especially considering how bad they were last year. They are one of those teams that just won't match up well with the Blazers, they can't really compete with a team that has 4 players around 7 foot (all 4 of which has pretty decent mobility), when they don't have a player on the roster approaching that. Spolestra also has to deal with Pat "Thanks for getting them this far Stan, but it's my team now" Riley over his shoulder, and considering that he is doing well in his rookie season for sure, I just hope they can get him some talent so he can show his true coaching mettle.

I wouldn't worry about Roy, he didn't shoot well from the field, but he didn't have to at all. He's playing at an unbelievable level this year, but he also has the team around him now that he can rely on, or as in yesterday, sit back almost the whole second half and just watch.

Oh, I wasn't worried about Roy. I was just amazed that the Blazers could stomp somebody that bad with him having a bad game. Last year the tem rose and fell with how he was playing, and I think it wore him out by the end of the season.

It'll be nice if they don't have to depend on him every night.
