XC Regionals: Men Third, Women Fifth

Post by Stonehouse on Sun Nov 16, 2008 11:55 am

Awesome showings by both the men and women!!!!! The #4 men finished third behind #1 Oregon and #2 Stanford, and were only 12 points behind Stanford:

Freshman phenom Alfred Kipchumba finished third, David Kinsella was fourth, and Tommy Betterbed was 13th. All earned All-Region honors. They are definitely going to make Nationals, and will be looking for a Top Ten finish for sure.

As for the women, despite missing several runners to injury, they finished a school-record fifth at regionals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Head coach Ian Solof said it best:

“This season has been tough with injuries and that has had us struggling all season,” head coach Ian Solof said. “Coming into the meet, we felt like we could be anywhere from fifth to twelfth depending on how we ran. We had a race strategy and executed it perfectly. I don’t think our top five could have run any better. To end up with best finish ever at regional with all of the injuries we’ve had is an incredible accomplishment.”

Sifrash Ademe was 22nd and Dana Morgan was 24th... both got all-region honors.

The Pilots will be a long-shot to make Nationals, but still... what a great accomplishment.

Congrats all around!
