Re: Coaches and referees
I agree that refs have fault.
But players are also at fault too... it is intensely annoying to watch all the flopping and histrionics that take place when watching international soccer. Heck, even MLS sometimes too. I mean... we are so immune to it know that we just joke around when a player goes down in agony, the ref dutifully pulls out the yellow card, and then the guy who seemingly has a broken ankle just gets up and jogs away.
Honestly, I think this aspect of soccer is one of the reasons that it has never really caught on in the US.
So... put in that perspective... if you are one guy on a field with 22 players and a lot of those players are intentionally exagerrating fouls... is it any wonder you're either 1) going make some calls that aren't fouls or 2) going to not call some fouls that really should be?

Sure, that was the going to be the second part of my first post on this subject. Thing is flopping is supposed to be an automatic yellow. Unfortunately, to big of a percentage of refs don't enforce this rule. These days it seems to me that a good percentage of flops are blatantly phony and yet refs still seem to call fouls instead of having the guts to enforce the rule and show a yellow to the flopper. I've seen it over and over. Happens in the NBA a lot, too. Sigh. . .

Re: Coaches and referees
There's an old saying in the referee community: "What you permit, you condone." Surely applies here, although it's pretty tough to caution a flop unless it's absolutely, 100% certain that it's a flop. It's often hard to be that sure without replay.

I think that the more seasoned referees of international men's games are much more likely to make the flop call. I seem to recall seeing an occasional call in European Cup and the World Cup games. I can't say that I've ever seen a flop called at a college or high school game.

Nice video, Auto. Absolute garbage. That's what that coach is teaching. How about teaching legit soccer? The coach is a LOSER, big time.
