Sounds like you're definitely not a native West coaster. Having grown up in Philly, I know that for East coasters, anything west of Chicago is "out West." Now living in Portland, anyone whose state has an ocean on the right is an East coaster!

Thanks for your comments from back there. Very astute.

Olivier made the All-Rookie Team, as noted.

Well, that's a different rant. The players who got the award instead should have an asterisk with an explanation:

"not as good as the freshman, you understand, but still pretty good"

Nobody left Jim Brown, Lew Alcindor, or Michael Jordan off a first team their freshman years....

Geez, when Alcindor played freshman weren't even eligible to play. He only played varsity 3 years!!

Smile

up7587, dropping the bombs. I love it!

Speaking of Alcindor's freshman year... I'm sure people have heard the story, but that season UCLA's varsity team was undefeated and won the NCAA championship. But they did lose one game that year... to their own JV team, which (of course) had the freshman Alcindor on it.

Caught! Here's from wikipedia:

Note: Freshmen were not eligible to play, so Alcindor only had 3 years to play, not four. The 1965-1966 UCLA Bruin team was the preseason #1. But on November 27 1965, the freshmen team led by Alcindor defeated the varsity team 75-60 in the first game in the new Pauley Pavilion.[4] This defeat had no effect on the varsity's national ranking. It was still number one the following week.

still sorta goes to what I'm saying , though.

BUMP

OK... I just saw that the Texas keeper was named third team here.

OH... MY... LORD...

She was awful. I mean truly bad. The Northern Arizona keeper was much better than Pfenniger. She made bad decisions, she misplayed balls, she couldn't keep the handle on balls... man. Maybe it was just a bad game, but I can't imagine any scenerio in which she deserves to be an All-American.

Thoughts? Am I being to hard on her?

Live Playoff Matches!!!

Post by FANatic on Mon Nov 17, 2008 6:18 pm

Hey aleppiek. I made it to not only Friday night's NAU match, but also to the Texas match on Sunday. What a wonderful experience.

Weather perfect. Pilots win!!! UPSF and his wife took me - wonderful people. And I met Martin Jol/Harry Redknapp.

What else could a guy wish for? I am paying for it now just a tad - falling asleep about once every 2 or 3 hours. But, for the most part, except for the exhaustion, I feel pretty good and am amped for the 3rd round. The final quarter of the Texas match showed me what this team can be. It's not going to be easy by any stretch - but watching the team play so well together both offensively and defensively, and with the will and super-talent of Megan and Sophie and the rest, I can see that anything is possible.
