I'm partial to the Jimmy Hendricks version.

Heard it live the first time.

More than once. For a while, he played it at the start of every concert.

I am just a little younger than you I remember asking my parents if I could go to Woodstock and they said no! I was just entering highschool as a freshman the next fall. hehe

Geezer, glad to see the real king of rock and roll in the intro to that clip. Also Dick Cavett, now there was a talk show worth watching.

the reverend Richard Wayne Penniman?

Yeah, he's one of my all time favorites, too.

After the clip plays, there's a link to the whole interview with Cavett.

I probably shouldn't admit this but I definitely had to google Dick Cavett to find out who he was... More minutiae for my next trivial pursuit game....

What the heck... since this thread is already so high-jacked I'll pile on. Here's my favorite Jimi song, for obvious reasons:

Just wait till the solo with his teeth at 1:40. Ridiculous.

Did you shoot your old lady? No wonder you have dating issues.....

Maybe we should have a Wild Thing award after every game (like the baseball movie with Charlie Sheen)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfPgj4bviKY

Ha ha ha! Smile No, Geez... didn't shoot my old lady down, but I am named Joe, and I would say one out of every... oh... five or six new people I meet will make a "Hey Joe" joke. My dating issues are much deepter rooted than that... perhaps related to the fact that the Pilot Fight Song is now my ring tone.

And how can we not have yet mentioned Jimi's song about the University of Portland? Or, at least, we can pretend it's about us:
