Talked with Dave Libbey yesterday, the new WCC coordinator of officials. Seems like a great hire. He is excited and knows his stuff.

Re: Reveno's Twitter Page
Wow.
Well... here's the thing about Libbey. He's always been respected among officials and (I assume) among coaches/administrators. I mean, they don't let just any old officials do the big TV games, NCAA tournament games, Final Fours, etc.
I think Libbey infuriates fans because he makes a point of making himself visible during the game... he loves the attention of making a big controversial call. And he especially loves making calls against the home team.
But in terms of him knowing the game and the rules in and out, he probably is very strong in that. And if, as Pilot Nut said, he will no longer be on the court itself, it's possible that it could work out. I mean, I doubt he's the type of guy who would have a problem getting in the faces of other officials. If he translated his desire for attention on the court to a desire for attention as an administrator (handing out suspensions, publically pointing out when calls are wrong, etc.) then heck... I can't believe I'm saying this, but it's possible it could indeed be a good hire.
I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt. But I do have my reservations. I mean, when one of the main offenders of bad WCC reffing is now the leader of the gang...

OMG!!!
, I had a feeling something like this may happen. Oh well, as long as Rev. thinks its OK.....Libby sure is an interesting character who revels in the limelight. Just another step up the ladder for a "personality". Maybe he can get another job commentating for ESPN,CBS,ABC etc,,,,and a third one as a special correspondent for Entertainment Tonight.

Re: Reveno's Twitter Page
I can tell you this:
If Dave Libbey were to be a TV analyst his rules knowledge would be far superior to anyone else's on TV right now.

In his contract, there is an explicit clause saying that he'll be paid by the word...

Ha ha... oh yes, Mr. Bean is not easily forgotten. Didn't see much of him this past year. Kevin Brill is his name, I think.
Yeah... not the best pic in the world, but almost 100% sure this is him:

Among other things, I remember him reffing a Pilots game that I went to when I was a freshman at La Salle. We'd watched Blackadder earlier that year in Thurley's class, and I absolutely freaked out when I saw the Rowan Atkinson look-alike.

I haven't seen anything explicit that her won't ref games. I do recall some discussion about him being a director of refs somewhere and still refereeing somewhere. I just can't remember if it was the WCC or not. Maybe in an interview with him a while back?
My hope is that if he wants to ref, they'll restrict him to non-Wcc games. It would just be too weird for everyone if the boss did the same job as everyone else. Besides- who would discipline him if he screws up?
