After attending the alumni event at the Norton building in Seattle tonight, I thought it would be cool to have a spot to occassionally have alumni events, to keep everyone in the loop... John Heily '67, the CEO/President of Continental Mills, hosted the event. It was pretty amazing, complete with an ice sculpture of the crest of UP, free appetizers, drinks, a slide show about recent UP campus expansion and events... Very impressive.

I rave from time to time about Pliny the Elder, in case by some miracle you guys haven't figured out...

Once a year for a couple of weeks, Russain River Brewery put out a version of Pliny the Elder called Pliny the Younger.

Consider this your announcement that PTY will be in Oregon for the next couple of weeks - then we will mourn the passing of the PY season for another year.

SO -- Head for you local pub that serves PTE and see if they have the super version.

UP says carry all you want, but it will no longer sell water. Drinking fountains and reusable water bottles are its mantra. Officials at the Catholic university feel strongly that access to water is a basic human right and shouldn't be privatized ...

It opened Friday at Fox Tower and I saw it today. I would highly recommend it.

It tells the story of Brian Clough's 44 days as manager of Leeds, who in the 70s were the dominant club in England. Why so short? There's lots of reasons and the movie explains the backstory you need to know if you're not up on English soccer. Clough was a driven and intelligent manager who also had a number of deep flaws and actor Michael Sheen shows us both these sides beautifully. Definitely worth a look.
