After two seasons of tremendous success at UP, we're going to have to get used to seeing Reveno's name popping up as a potential candidate for coaching openings. Here's the first one I've seen so far... randomly popped up in my Google alerts:

Eric Reveno, former Stanford player and coach who has done a nifty job making the University of Portland competitive, will be in the picture at Irvine - where the athletic director, Michael Izzi, formerly worked at Stanford and is a buddy of Reveno's. ...

There are a few websites out there that project NIT bids. This one has us as a six seed playing South Florida in the first round. http://bracketproject.50webs.com/nit.html

There are a few other sites that do not have us making the cut and heading to a pay-to-play tourney (CBI or CIT). An invitation to one of those tournaments could mean another game at the Chiles Center.

MLS lockout a dismal possibility...

For the growth of soccer in this country, the future of professional UP MLS players, and many others the impending MLS lockout really seems gloomy. Although the players are united in their stand for better rights such as free agency (among many other things), I can't help wondering if they're asking for too much too soon at the wrong time (since the economy isn't the best). What do you think?

Doug Gottlieb has several times mentioned our victory over Minnesota is a bad loss for them. And a worse loss than Virginia Tech's worst out of conference loss (which they never mentioned who that was). Obviously I would rather that we qualified for the tourney and were not considered a bad loss. But it is better that we are beating (possible) tourney teams than losing to everybody. If Minnesota gets in, our record against tourney teams was 2-6, which I bet is better than some teams that are ...

It's Sunday the 21st at Noon at La Bonbonera in Boca, BA.

For those of you living under a rock, it's the Premier rivalry in South America - twice a year River Plate v. Boca Juniors. and it's on most soccer fan's list of things to do before you die.

I have DTV, and it shows the game at 9:00 PM Sunday night the 21st (FSE) . BA is 5 hours ahead (6 hrs with Daylight Savings), so though I am normally opposed to delayed broadcasts I think this was a good call.

So far, Arizona and ASU have lost to teams with sub-.500 records. And UW is trailing OSU by 11 late in the first half. Only Cal was able to win their game following form. Looks like the Pac-10 will truly be a 1-bid league, unless Cal stumbles. This may hurt Pilots as more big schools will be available for the NIT.

John Heily '67, the CEO/President of Continental Mills, hosted the event. It was pretty amazing, complete with an ice sculpture of the crest of UP, free appetizers, drinks, a slide show about recent UP campus expansion and events... Very impressive.

My initial reaction (taking place at 1:30am or whatever it was out here) was to kick him off the team. After talking with some folks in the office this morning, some were saying suspend him for a few games because, while inexcusable, he was provoked. It's an emotional game, etc.

I don't know, you hate to punish a too harshly for losing his cool in an amped-up atmosphere, but that was just very inappropriate and embarrassing.

Former Pilot and now PSU forward Jamie Jones was named to the Big Sky 1st team.

He led the league with eight double-doubles. He ranks third in the nation in field-goal percentage, and leads the league in rebounds at 7.8 per game, and averages 14.3 points per game.

Congrats to him on a great carreer, even if it wasn't all on the Bluff.

Sigh... I was still holding out hope that Nik might be able to play by Saturday, but it looks like that's not the case. Maybe he'll be back if we play in any kind of postseason tournament? I hope so!

Laiken leads the Nation

Lost in the hubbub about Jared leading the Nation in Three point shooting is the fact that Laiken Dollente is leading the Nation in Free throw shooting with a 92.6% FT shooting record.

It took a tweet from Rev to bring that to our attention..

Congrats to Laken!

Stohl #1 in the Country in 3pt%

I just posted this in another topic, but figured it deserved its own thread.

At 48.7%, Jared is currently #1 in the entire country in three point percentage:

http://www.ncaa.com/sports/m-baskbl/stats/ncaa-m-baskbl-div1-ind-three-point-field-goal-percentage.html

He has 91 of 187 attempts. And he has been even better in WCC play, hitting 52%.

Just unreal... we are so lucky to have a shooter like this on our team.
