Baseball Wins Again

Post by pilotpurple on Thu Feb 28, 2008 11:51 pm

16-inning thriller over Northern Illinois (playing their first game of the season after the shooting tragedy). NIU looks like a good team, based on their record from last year and returning players. Went 16 innings before the Pilots pulled it out 9-6. The bullpen pitched about 10 innings with only 1 run allowed and 13 K's!

Pilots are now 4-2, but must face Michigan (top 10) and No. 1 Arizona State this weekend. Then it's home for Oregon State on Tuesday.

We might actually be a decent team this year.

Awesome! Three extra inning games out of six; guess the boys don't mind working overtime this year.

As in the pros, pitching will play a big part in our success.

UP Defeats No. 8 Michigan!

Post by pilotpurple on Fri Feb 29, 2008 8:17 pm

Wow. Another extra inning thriller as UP defeats No. 8 Michigan 4-3 in 10 innings. I think we have a squad this year. Michigan recently played the New York Mets to an exhibition tie, and according to the box score, it was the actual big league team.

Wow... that is AWESOME! Great win for the Pilots!

I agree, pilotpurple. I think the team will be very competitive this year. The pitching should be solid, especially the much-improved bullpen. We'll miss Kutz as the Friday starter and Ronick still needs to get healthy, but overall it seems like a lot of the newcomers are studs.

We're probably not going to score a ton of runs, but our staff will be able to keep us in games for sure. Should be an exciting season... would be sweet if we could sneak one away from Arizona State, though I would definitely settle for a win over Hawaii tomorrow.

Just a quick update... UP won a double header yesterday, beating Utah Valley State 4-3 and UC Davis 11-10. They followed that up with a 4-2 win over Sacramento State today.

We're now 9-4... not bad at all!

Next up is San Jose State tomorrow and then we've got a tough stretch of games ahead of us at a tournament in Fresno (Utah, Fresno State, Gonzaga, New Mexico State, Indiana).

Good luck Diamond Pilots!

So do you guys think it's worth creating a seperate forum for UP baseball?

A separate forum might be nice. It is the only spring sport and we're off to the program's best start in probably 20 years, so I'm for it. Minus that OSU debacle, the squad appears to be headed for one of its best years in a long while.

Debacles happen to everyone, especially at the College level.

OSU just had theirs, losing to LMU 3-13 just two days ago.

The team is looking good, and they get two rematches. the 31st and the April 15 at Joe Etzel field. Let's see how they do the second time.

April 15 is downtown at the stadium. Should be a good game.
